• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Modern Scope on a NAACO Grizzly (L57 Action)

I have inherited a NAACO Grizzly chambered in 308. Just the action is Sako (L57), every other part of the gun was made by NAACO, including the stock and barrel.

It has some iron sights on it, but they are not in good shape, so it's difficult to aim (to the point where it can't be used for hunting).

For anyone that has one of these, have you managed to mount a modern scope? Any suggestions of where to get scope mounts?

Very cool rifle!
A set of Sako ringmounts will fix you right up!
You have choices of low, medium and high.
Leupold and Millet also have good rings for the Sako action dovetails.
For a period correct choice , another option is the Kuharski / Bausch & Lomb combo.
The peep sight shown on your rifle is a truly accurate rear sight but doesn’t really lend to hunting until you have perfect light conditions and shorter shooting ranges. One can open the aperture up to a larger diameter to improve the sight picture…
The NAAco Grizzly is a fine and somewhat rare find! Congratulations!

There are several choices related to scope mounting. Probably best to start with what you’re actually considering mounting, i.e. objective lense size and so on. 40mm is pretty average, so mediums in Sako (vintage) or Leupold would be perfectly suited. Redfield bases and rings are also popular. These are typically available on eBay or elsewhere. Sako Source is a good resource for vintage ringmounts. They have a header at the top of the page.

Knowing what the specific optic will determine the actual mounting requirements.

I agree with the recommendation to use original Sako rings. Here's an L57 .243 with a period Weaver V9 scope in Sako medium rings. I like the combination - the scope is newer than the rifle, but it still gives a vintage look. Whether the installation requires medium or high rings will depend on the size of the objective bell and the contour of the Grizzly barrel.

How about posting some more photos? We don't often see a Grizzly.
