• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Sako 85 M Bavarian open sights

Greetings!
I'm a new forum member with a new Sako 85 Bavarian in 30.06 Sprg. My problem is that I cannot find a rear sight blade 12 mm height for this rifle.
In the past I saw that Tikka offered for old model Tikka T3 rear sights with two blades 9,5 mm and 12 mm as you can see in bellow picture.
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to find this kind of rear sight blade 12 mm for Sako 85 M. I have now on the rifle a 9.5mm blade but I cannot adjust the elevation as I need with the screw of the front sight pin.
Or maybe I can find this complete rear sigh for old Tikka model with two blades as show in picture and I will try to mount it on my Sako rifle.
Thank you in advance for your support with this matter.
Best regards,
Vali

Looks like Sako is only offering the complete rear sight as a spare parts set. Comes with the sight base and 9,5 mm, 12 mm square notch and 12 mm V-notch. Code for the set is S5850310. That old one you found should work too, but it's from previous generation if you care about keeping it original.

I looked for this sight blades on internet for about few months but I couldn't find it in any store. Even Beretta, my local dealer for Sako does not import this kind of parts. Strange from my point of view. It's not a rifle to wait 8-9 months.
I found a solution at Recknagel from Germany. They produce many kinds of sight blades. I ordered a blank blade and I will adjust it to fit on the base. The price for this blank blades is small, around 5 euro.
If I fill find in the future an original 12 mm blade from Sako and they will not ask 100 euro for it maybe I will buy it, just for fun :).

Domestic price for the set I mentioned is 87 €. I would not buy it either.

Gunsmiths often accumulate piles of rear sights as people want them removed when putting on massive scopes. Probably worth asking your nearest gunsmith.

The actual sight blade from Sako is different from the old blades used for Sako and Tikka. In the past the shape of the base for the blade was like a prisma. Many rifles have this kind of blade shape and it's easy to find it at a gunsmith.
For the new models of Sako and Tikka they changed the shape of the blade It's like a "reverse prisma" (I don't know if I used the correct terms). It's a bit hard to find this kind of shape.
