• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Hello Again,

I think I'm at the LAST piece of restoring my dad's L46. I was trained to shoot offhand with the sling wrapped around my forearm for stability. Most if not all photos of rifles I've seen here don't have a sling installed, and i can find no threads here on the topic.

So, what do y'all use for a sling?

I have 1" loops installed on the studs. QR's don't fit. My local shop mostly has sewn end slings, or they are just for slinging over the shoulder. The leather ones they had with the double-hooks have stiff laminated crappy leather, already separating, so would suck.

Thanks!

If possible, I always use a sling while hunting......for SHOOTING.....not carrying.
To be exact, I use Brownell's Latigo sling......in, as you mentioned, the "quick-sling" method.....especially from a seated position.

Note that the Latigo sling can also be used in a full "target" method, by disconnecting the rear sling swivel from its stud.....when permitted by swivel design.

I've used them for more than a few decades......at last count.....I have about six of them left. Given away a few over the years.

Hi Kevin, wow that sling looks like many i remember in my family's collection as a kid, and exactly what they trained me on. I just ordered one. I also found and ordered a VTAC Padded Sling Nylon from midway. I'll report back a comparative review.

thank you!

OK, I think i've got it! I received and immediately sent back the VTAC two point sling. It's for AR urban combat applications.

I finally got my Latigo last night, and I really like it! I'm glad I didn't cut it down to 25, vs 26, like the instructions would have had me do, as at 26, the forearm wrap in the offhand shooting positon is both tight and comfy at the same time. I am always amazed as to the stability contribution this makes.

@Kevin, i see your sling isn't dressed. Any recommendations on leather dressing? Baseball glove treatment? Leave it untreated?

Thanks! I think I'm fully restored and ready for any varmit.

I had a Latigo sling like that one on my original Finnbear .264 (purchased in 1965). The leather finally dried and cracked, so I replaced it, but it was a fine one in its day. I still have the Finnbear (with its original Leupold on it) and killed a feral hog with it at 330 yards last fall.
