• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Sako AV Information Needed

Hello all,

I was finally able to pick up the Sako rifle I mentioned in my prior post a week or so ago (my first Sako)! I was wondering if anyone could help me with some information regarding the rifle. The serial number is in the 806xxx range and the rifle has a barrel length of about 22 1/2 inches. The rifle appears in excellent condition. A Decelerator pad was added (looks professionally done) . The ring mounts that came with it (they look like Leupold) are too high, and I am thinking about using the Leupold ring mounts in a smaller size. Are the Leupold ring mounts any good? Would anyone have any general information on the rifle including when it may have been made?

Also, I have attached a picture of the trigger below (not the greatest picture though as I did not remove the barreled action from the stock). Is there enough in the picture to tell whether this is the #4 trigger or the "Tikka" trigger? If it is a "Tikka" trigger, are the triggers easy to lighten the pull weight? Thanks in advance for any input or information provided, and I apologize for all of the questions IMG_1460.JPG IMG_1461.JPG IMG_1463.JPG IMG_1464.JPG IMG_1465.JPG IMG_1466.JPG !

Your A-V is called the "Classic" model. These were made with a straight (non-Monte Carlo) stock using American or Claro walnut instead of European walnut, and your rifle exhibits some excellent fiddleback coloring. Classics usually bring a bit of a premium on the market compared to a standard grade. The rifle probably dates to the mid/late 1980's.

Leupold ringmounts work just fine. The "medium" height clears most scopes with objectives up to about 42mm, depending on how far forward or aft you mount the scope.

The trigger is not the #4 trigger, but the one which succeeded it. I have never worked with one of these triggers but perhaps someone else can describe how to adjust it.

Howdy Blong!
Gorgeous Classic! I have its near twin in 7mm RM. That trigger has vexed me in my attempt or two to fiddle with it. Not having the correct metric allen wrench was my issue I believe. Poor follow through. The trigger isn't horrible or I would have worked harder. I put mine in a McMillan Hunter for field work...I may need to reacquaint the pairing. I' e got a leupold varix 3 4.5x14 in warne rings sitting atop mine.

Let us know how it shoots.

Thanks Gary! Your set-up with the McMillan and Vx3 sounds nice! I hope to get it to the range once my son's soccer games die down on the weekends :).
