• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Hello. First post... mystery part.

Hello, new here, though I have poked around a time or two in the past, reading, learning, planning future bad financial decisions. :)

Figured this was a good first post since I probably won't be posting a ton, only owning one Sako currently which took far too long to finally happen. (I grew up hearing my father talk about and lament having to sell a Sako in .308 he owned some time in the 60's or very early 70's. Probably to pay bills or feed us kids)

Anyway... yesterday morning I found this on the floor. I see it and say "Hmmm.... I know what that is." (at least I've seen it before) Since several days earlier I had the trigger group off my Forester, my brain is telling me it goes between the bottom metal and the stock at the front. I looked at an exploded parts diagram and don't see one, at least not on the one.

Rather than dig the rifle out and take it apart, (besides it's at home in a safe and I'm at work) I figured I'd make a first post to confirm my suspicions. What say you?

Yep…that’s exactly what you think it is and that is exactly what happened.
Sako used this type of shim to level the bottom metal to the stock in cases were the routing is too deep. Sometimes you will find them on the top side .. doing the same thing.
Good thing you picked it up before the vacuum cleaner did. 😁

BTW..Welcome to the club!

It could go between the wood and the bottom metal either in front or in rear to level the external bottom metal with the wood. You'll have to disassemble and try in each position to determine where it goes.

That part is a shim that goes between the bottom metal and the stock to align the bottom metal with the wood. It could have come from the front or the rear action screw. Place it where the metal and the wood align the best. Make sure the magazine box is properly installed as it's possible to get it pinched and damage the bottom metal. Best of Luck Jim
