• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Sako 85 additional MOA

I have a Sako 85 Long Range in 300WM that was topped with a VX-3i LRP 6-20x50. After getting the rifle zeroed I have 25 MOA left of vertical adjustment. I’d like to add a 10/20 MOA rail to get me the adjustment needed for 1000 yards +.

Currently I am looking at the contessa 20MOA rail, but can not find any reviews. Second option is to mill off the front sight base for the additional MOA. If I do mill, will the scope be under any stress? TheOptilocks have the rotating plastic insert.

Simply placing a few thicknesses of plastic electrician's tape between the scope tube and the bottom of the rear ring (or insert) will achieve the same thing, is much simpler, costs virtually nothing, and is easily reversible.

This will work, but one must remember not to over tighten the ring tops to the bottoms. Doing so could leave indents on the scope or even bend the scope tube. Getting a 20 MOA scope base can be has by contacting one of the higher end ring and base manufactures. The cost might be high but everything will be straight as it should be. I have done this and am very satisfied, as the cost of my Night Force scope is not chicken feed anymore.

One would be Rat Worx in Mount Morris Il. or any custom gunsmith for starters. Wigand (sp) rings and mounts would be another one to contact. A local machinist could mill a existing base the needed few thousands off a standard base or tap and drill the needed action for a MOA base. A net search for custom gunsmiths should get more closer gunsmiths for the job needed.
milling the stock base action would be a last resort. It would lower the height needed for scopes with a 50MM objective and would have negative impact on any resale of the firearm. The extra height of a base would mean lower rings can be used to get as low as possible for line of sight and center of bore alignment.
