No Model L46 was ever made with a "clip". No Sako rifles of any model designation had "clips". Many rifles in the past used "clips" to hold cartridges prior to loading in the gun's magazine, like the stripper "clips" used on military bolt actions & the en bloc "clip" used by the M1 Garand to load 8 rounds into the magazine at once. Gun's that use "clips" haven't been made since WWII & no firearm made for the civilian market have ever used "clips". Strange how the erroneous use of a word or term can overpower the use of the correct one. I have a theory why this is, but that would be a topic for a different forum. All of the L46 rifles as far as I know had clips. Bowne1
Detachable box magazine or DBM for short. The L46 is the single stack type. The other L series Sako's (L461, L579, etc) have staggered internal magazines with floorplates. The floorplate can drop open for quick unloading. The other type of magazine you will see on bolt action rifles (not Sakos) is the internal "blind" magazine. These have no bottom metal/floorplate & must be unloaded by cycling the action.Understand, then what do you call the shell holder in a L46? I call it a removable clip.
I have 2 of the same gun. One in a 222 and the other is a 222 mag and I must say they are 2 of my favorites. The bottom metal and clip is (in my opinion) some of SAKO'S finest craftsmanship.
Amen !!
I'll need to have a closer look to verify Fella's. Anyone able to send one over ?
