• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20 X 50mm on heavy barrel?????????

Sako Collectors Club Discussion Forum

Hi all,

Has anyone out there mounted a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20 X 50 on a 461/AI heavy barrel? If so what rings did you use?

I just purchased a Minox ZA 5 4-20 X 50 and could not find any rings high enough to clear the barrel. I tried the Leupold super highs and still do not have enough height. I'm thinking about selling the Minox and buying a Zeiss. It looks as thought the Objective on the Zeiss in smaller in actual diameter so it may fit with the super high Leupolds but I would like to see if anyone else had tried this before I run into another problem.

Thanks,

Ryan

Ryan: I mounted a 56mm objective Swarovski on my heavy barrel fluted varmint rifle (an 85 Varmint Stainless and not a 461 however) with Talley High Fixed Rings and had room to spare. These are outstanding rings. Made in the US from solid bar stock and far superior to the Leupolds IMHO. However, if you call the guys at Talley directly they can tell you for sure and the fellas answering the phone are the same guys that run the company and that work in the factory so they really know their stuff. The number is 803.854.5700. Good luck.

I didn't even know talley made rings for the older sako's. I have talleys on a couple of guns I own.

Thanks for the heads up.

Regards,

Ryan

Use Redfield/Burris bases with the highest turn-in rings available. The Redfield-type bases sit atop the Sako dovetails and add considerable height. They are high enough that I have mounted 40mm scopes with "super low" rings (on sporter weight barrels).
