• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Looking for an original 2 piece rail for a Sako model 78 and the original 5 screws that come with it. The screws would be slotted and have a bevel to the head. The rails would be two pieces, one longer than the other with 3 holes, the shorter being 2 holes. The rail would be appx 11mm wide.

Any help would be appreciated. Trying to get a model 78 in original condition to give as a gift to my son.

Thank you

A set of original Model 78 scope mounting bases were available on Gunbroker.com a few weeks ago. They had not sold the last I noticed. You might do an archives search there and contact the owner if they did not sell.

I can understand your wish to make your Model 78 original. However, you can fit it with Weaver-type bases and use any of a variety of high quality cross slot rings on it. This is obviously superior in strength to the tip-off style rings, and visually looks esssentially the same. I think that the bases made for a Rem 700 (front) will do the trick, but take your gun to a dealer that has a full selection and you can undoubtedly find a set of bases that work.

I have a P-72 with the original bases and a M-78 with Weaver-type bases. Both work just fine.
