• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

When did Front Sights Stop Being Fitted To The L579 H B's?

Hello Blokes,
I own a Sako L579 H B .308 Win made in 1970. This rifle wears a factory sweated-on front sight. Yesterday I was looking at a 1971 Garcia Sako brochure which had 3 Sako's on the front cover, one was a L579 sporter, one a L579 carbine full stock, and the third a L579 H B with out a front sight. Are we saying that the 1970 L579 H B's were the last to be fitted with front sights? Your comments please.

Mike!!
Depending on the different markets youxB4ll find rifles manufactured the same year, with or without open sights.
Like in Sweden where hunters always have favoured open sights. Not neccesarily because they used them but that is the way itxB4s supposed be!
Our American friends have always favoured scopes or peep sights more than we do over here, so fewer rifles with open sights were sold over there.
The H.BxB4s are rarely equipped with open sights at all as they were intended for use with scope or peep sights.
My 2 cents! Or 2 xF6ren!:evil2:

I have seen many L57 HB's equipped with a front sight, but L579 HB's, at least in the U.S., rarely have them.

I believe that sometime around 1972 Sako switched from a sweated front sight ramp to a screw-on front sight ramp. You'll probably find some of each on each side of that date as is common in Sako changeovers.
