• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

My father bought a Sako action back in approx. 1988-1989 for building a custom rifle. On the left side of the receiver it says AV Ser# 609979. That's all it says, no designation of what action it is. He put a Shilen barrel in .280 Rem. on it and a very early Bell and Carlson stock which I hate. I'm wanting to change the stock to an HS Precision https://www.hsprecision.com/shop/stocks/pss/pss056.html but they only list making stocks for an L691 action. From the actions listed on Wikipedia and dates of manufacture as best I can tell my action is an L61R. Can anyone confirm by the serial number what action I have, and do you know if the stock fitting an L691 would also fit an L61R? Differences between the 2 actions? Sako doesn't make it easy to find out this info. and of course they have no phone number listed on their site for contacting Sako except the number for Beretta, the current importer. Can someone please help to clear this fog of confusion? Thanks for your help.

Beretta would be of no help, don't even try.

Your action is just what it says it is, An A-V (A-5). It is the successor to the L61R and A-III actions and is identical except that it has a slightly longer tang. However, the action screw holes are in the same place and an L61R stock can be adapted to it by simply inletting a bit additionally for the longer tang. The one caveat to this is that late A-V actions used a different trigger with a larger housing and those may require inletting a little additional room around the trigger housing if using an L61R stock. If you'll post a photo of your action taken out of the stock we can tell you which trigger you have, but guessing solely from your SN (which is undependable) I'm going to say you have the late trigger.

The L691 stock is close, but is made for a different recoil lug and I am unsure if it can be successfully adapted.

Check with HS Precision to see if they have a stock for the Sako A-V action.

I tried to buy a HS for a L61R I had and they didn't have one. In talking to their service people they didn't intend to do one either for anything older than a 691. I ended up getting a Mcmillan and pillar bedding it.
