I recently bought two Sako rifles from the son of a man who passed away.
Both are 6PPC caliber. One has the serial # A350 andf the other has serial # A905.
I really knew nothing more about the guns when I made the purchase.
The 350 is stamped 22PPC on the receiver but the previous owner changed
out the barrel to a heavy Hart Stainless and he had the gun chambered
for 6PPC.at that time.
The #905 is as it came, with the heavy blued barrel, which carries the Stoeger Arms Import on the
bottom of the barrel.
In addition to the two rifles, I also bought a ton of other stuff
relating to reloading, a Hart Rifle Rest, 800 rounds of 6PPC brass, and a bunch of Wilson dies.
So ever since I made the purchase I have wondered about the history of
these two rifles and exactly what kind of Sakos are they.
Well, tonight I found the answer!
Going through the mans files for the first time, which were sent to me
along with the guns and gear, I found the sales slips for both rifles
along with the Sako tags. Both were in their individual plastic
envelopes as pictured below.
The # A350 is an L 461 Vixen Varmint chambered for 22PPC. Purchased in June 1990 brand new.
The # A905 is also an L 461 Vixen Varmint chambered in 6mmPPC. Purchased from the same gun dealer in September 1990 brand new.
For some unknown reason the owner changed out the barrel and chamber on
the #350 gun to a 6PPC. His son thought it was because it had a bad
barrel, but that turned out to be an entirely different rifle that blew
up. I have the bolt and Stainless barrel for that gun and posted pics of
it in another thread the other day.
The tags indicate you could get 5 different calibers at that time along with a blank square choice. I would like to have one of each.
So it is nice to have some of the history on these two fine guns and
know where they were first purchased and when they were made.
With the rifle tags was a Sako factory sheet describing how to adjust
the trigger on the rifles. If anyone needs a copy I will be glad to
provide one, just let me know.
