• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. Just got a catalog update from Brownell's and noticed that they are now stocking Warne rings for Tikka and Sako 75 rifles. This is good news, given the high cost and erratic availability of factory rings for these rifles. The rings come in permanent mount and quick-detachable. These are vertically split rings, which look kind of odd if you're used to the more common horizontally split kind. Some folks like them, some don't.

The Warne rings are very well made, and the QD ones will return to zero consistently. I have a set of the QD rings on my old Mannlicher-style Sako that I use for hunting and I like them a lot - very solid, and I can pull them off to use the open sights if I have to.

Price from Brownell's is 39.95 for 1" fixed mounts and 74.95 for the 1" QD. 30MM is five bucks more. Warne rings are available for several different base styles, including Sako pre-75, Weaver, CZ, Ruger, and Warne's proprietary mounts.

I use Warne fixed rings exclusively on my Sakos. I don't particulary care for the Sako mounts, old or new versions. Leupold mounts are a joke, and why attach a mount with a base when you already have a base machined in the receiver?

The new Warne rings will only fit the 75's and Sako AV actions due to the width of the rear dovetail. I do have some 1st generation Warne mounts that fit the smaller A1 and A2 actions. In fact, the good people at Warne upgraded my old mounts with a heavier Torx head screw. Warne is a first class outfit all the way.

Their new mounts for Sako fit absolutely perfect and use four heavy duty torx socket head screws. They are like mini-vaults. Cabela's has these for $34.99 pair but is temporarily out. Warne may have them however, speak to Dave@ Warne.

The new mounts are not machined, but manufactured via the sintered steel process, which is 90% or so as strong. Porsche makes engine components from the sintered steel process. These mounts are the stongest and simpliest mounts for your Sako regardless of price. That's why I use them.

The Warne rings are good, and I have them on several Sako rifles. I have switched to the Sako rings from Talley. Much cleaner, more positive lock.

I have emailed Talley with this question, but have not got a reply. Perhaps you can help?

I have a light .375 H&H; and one pair of the Warne Quick-Detach rings (which do have a recoil lug that projects down). I returned a pair of Warne "permanent" ringmounts because they lack this lug. Looking at these, I think they would eventually be split by the dovetail on a Sako with serious recoil.

Warne apparently no longer makes the QD rings for the old Sako dovetails and only the new 3 lug actions (so I've been told anyway -- I didn't think the dovetails differed).

Does the Talley system for the Sako have some sort of a positive stop (i.e. some kind of a recoil lug), or does it just clamp on?

Many thanks for any info!

El Viejo,

The new Warne rings will fit the older Sako's with the long AV action, but not the short A1 & A2 actions. The rear dovetails of these actions were smaller in width.

Funny you should mention the recoil stop issue. Although I don't have anything like a .375, the lack of a recoil lug bothers me also. I am going to try to work with a local machinist to have a wider grove milled in between the rear rings and have a recoil hook made that fits in this slot. This will take a while, but I'll let you know what happens.
