We had snow flurries all day today in most of the Commonwealth. I love hunting in the snow ! Shot this buck with my Sako .30-06 sporter over cut corn & cover crop. 165gr. Core Lokt dropped him in his tracks, at about 170 yards or so. Still love chasing these VA whitetails!

Oooh . . . nice and tall with good mass -- and wanted to be a 10-point if only the right antler had cooperated. It's good to see that Virginia is still producing some excellent examples of the Virginia Deer.

When I was a youngster everyone had a .30-06 so I thought it wasn't cool. It only took me about three decades to figure out it is an incredibly versatile chambering which is the measuring stick against which every other hunting round is compared.

130-160 pounds or so. We weigh most of our bucks taken on club property, this is about the norm.

Didn't weigh this one, as I was pressed for time since I had to work today. Guessing this one was about 155-170. I'm a big boy, and it's on the back of my F-250 pickup.

So the Virginia deer are relatively large, not like those miniature whitetails I see pictures of down in Texas, etc. Thats good to know.

Where I used to normally hunt in Alberta the average buck was around 200 lb. with does running about 130 on average. Some deer weighed more of course. This picture is of my second heaviest Whitetail but I never did get it properly weighed.I'm 5' 10" and standing right next to it.
