• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

I found a L61R that is listed in excellent condition, how much is a gun like this worth? Also, what questions would you ask prior to buying? If I know the serial number, can I determine the year? Thanks

It will depend on whether or not it is an honest gun. No reblueing and rebarreling. Serial numbers match and on and on. Caliber is also important and then there is the factoring of how bad you want it. If you would like to let me know much more about it, you may send a private message to me and I promise not to buy it out from under you. I'll give you a fair value based on what it is and not what it may seem to be. If you are buying on the "NET' you should be careful what you bid on and if you find a seller that doesn't answer your questions-- JUST DON'T BID. If there are not pictures of an important value aspect of a firearm, it usually raises a red flag for me and will hesitate to look at it with interest after that. Regards, Mike

The L61R action spanned three U.S. importers (Firearms International, Garcia, and Stoeger) and was produced from the early 1960's to the early 1980's. It was used in the standard, deluxe, Mannlicher, and even HB varmint configurations. There were more than a dozen cartridges factory chambered in it.

An abused rifle with nothing salvagable but the action might be worth $300 for the action alone. A pristine Deluxe imported by FI in one of the less common calibers might be worth $1500 or more.

Asking what an L61R is worth is like asking "what is my Ford F-150 worth?" A little more information is going to be needed to make a useful guess.
