• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Just wondering what the twist rate of a L579 243 HB would be? It has the round shroud bolt, so I assume it is pre 71? 5 didget S/N, but I don't know what it is as the photo is not clear enough to see the S/N.
Thanks guys.

Hey Wookie,
I believe that would be 1:10. Standard for pre-Garcia/72 Forester L579 in .243. Just so you know, the round, no-shroud bolt went past pre-Garcia/72 up to around 1978 when Stoeger took over from Garcia. If it is pre-Garcia/72, the top of the round bolt shroud should be flat and checkered and scope bases should be checkered. If the round bolt shroud is completely round and scope bases are not checkered, it is a Garcia import. I also believe 5 digit serial numbers for .243 were late 1970 to 1971. Hope this helps, If I am correct

Hey Wookie,
It can't be both. It's either a Garcia import, made from 1972-79/80, with "Garcia Sporting Arms, Wash, D.C." lightly marked on the bottom of the barrel just in front of the forearm, or a Bofors Steel stamp rifle made pre-1968 and imported by Firearms International. My bad on the five digit serial number explanation. five digit SN in .243 was roughly 1960 to 1971.
