• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Hi All,

I recently inherited my grandfathers 30-06 rifle. I`m battling to get
details on the barrel, twist, and preferred ammo to use with it. I
reload myself and had some good results with 180 gr and 165 gr but
would like to have more detail to fine tune.

The markings on the rifle include. LSA-65 serial nr 650 - 26829

Cal .30-06 , Oy Tikkakoski

Made Finland , and its covered with a tan leather. (pictures to follow in next post.)

I measured the barrel and suspect it's a 22" barrel , but I have no
idea what the Twist Rate is , and what the bullet seating depth and
cartridge overall length should be for the lands. Can anybody help or
point to a book on these rifles ? More info I could get..

" Their name derives from the city of Tikkakoski, Finland, where Tikka
firearms were manufactured prior to 1989. For several years in the
early '70s, Ithaca imported Tikka rifles, which were sold under the
model names LSA 55 (short action) and LSA 65 (long action). Actions of
current rifles are similar to those of the LSA models with just a few
minor

design details. Currently Tikka rifles are manufactured by Sako, in Riihimaki, Fin land."

Any help ?

The information you reproduced is accurate. At the time your Tikka (probably branded "Ithaca"?) was produced, Tikka was not associated with Sako. Subsequently, Beretta bought a controlling interest in both Sako and Tikka and now both lines are produced under the same management. HOWEVER, your Tikka is only related to Sako in the way that a 1920's Savage is related to a 2009 Stevens -- both were made in the same country and both are now under the same ownership.

The Tikkas were and are well-made guns, although not quite as refined as Sakos. Your rifle in all likelihood has the fairly standard 1-10" twist, or the near metric equivalent. You can measure it by running a tightly-patched cleaning rod down the bore until it makes one full revolution. There is no reason that it won't shoot any .30 caliber bullet weight just fine. Seating depth is something that you have to find via trial and error with any rifle, even two otherwise identical guns that came off of the assembly line one after the other.
