• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Got Ya!

Here is the truth about Christmas. I am spending it at the inlaws and hopefully going to do some ice fishing, if not, some pheasant hunting. That's the truth about my Christmas.

I recently bought a H&K; 630 to gun down those running coyotes (I don't practice enough to get good with a bolt), so I will spray and pray! I've listed the 264 from my last post on Broker, as well as an H&R; Ultra Bolt Sako 30-06 that is nice. Any Sako Collectors Club member gets free shipping.

Thanks for all the replies, but have decided to sell the 264 outright to upgrade my Hunter Lightweight Collection.

Does anyone know why the rifling in the H&R; barrel on my Ultra Bolt looks unlike the rifling in a standard barrel? It has no distinct lands and grooves but kind of a twisted 4 cornered circle. It's not shot out, but a different type of rifling, new to me. Thanks for any input.

That's called "polygonal" rifling. Heckler & Koch uses it extensively, on the P7 and other pistols and on some military rifles. Actually, I thought I remembered that the HK 630 had that type of rifling, but maybe not. I used to have its big brother in .308. The biggest advantage of poygonal rifling is that it's easier to clean and less prone to fouling than conventional rifling. The concept is not new - it dates back at least to Charles Newton, the famous gun designer of the early 20th century. I used to have a .35 Newtron rifle built around 1919 that had polygonal rifling.

Thanks for the info. I just got the HK 630 and compared them, they are very similar. Did H&R; use this on other rifles? If I had another I would look, but my H&R; Ultra Wildcats in .17 caliber are not this way. I used to have a Browning Safari 22-250 that had very fine rifling with more lands and grooves than a Sako Forester in same caliber.

Don't apologize for the "master Blaster" I have 4 H&k; rifles. (22; 22mag; 223; and the 308.) All of them shoot sub inch groups and are deadly on the varmints. I live in Northern Minnesota and hunt Fox and coyotes all winter. When I stalk on a sleeping varmint I use one of Sakos (222 mag, 22-250 etc.), but when I call or see one where I need maximum firepower, out comes the h&k.; The 223 is so much better because the lack of recoil allows you to walk the bullets up to the animal. A bolt will take you off the target.
I have found the best scope to be a Leupold 3.5X10 with a DOT reticle. It really makes it easy to see the lead.
Shot two coyotes with it this last weekend. (26 shots)
Have Fun with it

Not alot to look at, but what a sweet and quiet shooting 223. The Mini blasts my ears, ARs feel cheap, but this HK is just right. I also have had a 22 and 22mag, but sold them for profit. Had one 30 minutes, the other an hour. Must have sold them too cheap. I'm waiting on another 630, with a 3-9x50 Leupold. The scope will be for sale, and a 3.5-10 or 2.5-8 will go on it.

I'm glad I found this site where others are willing to spend a little more to get alot more gun, Sakos, HKs, Benellis,.... Life is to short to own crappy guns.

My dad gave me a SKS once, I handed it right back. Unfortunately, a meth freak broke into the house, stole it and 2 others, then shot 2 cops (wounding them), then killed a Rancher when he suprised the tweaker. We live in rural Nebraska where it isn't supposed to happen. Lock up those guns, no matter where you live.

Those HKs are sweet. What I like about the 630 [and the older SL series] is that delayed roller-lock action. German engineering and manufacturing truly is a marvel. What kind of groups are you getting with your 630? Are you handloading, or is there any particular commercial ammo that gives exceptional accuracy. I used to own some 630s and routinely shot one inch groups at 100 yards.

I haven't had a chance to put it on paper yet. The second one just got here, it has a BSquare mount on it and a 3-9x50 Leupold. I have some Wolf ammo that I am shooting at coyotes, but haven't taken time to work up any loads, and probably won't, as cheap as I can buy 223. This 630 launches empty casings 50 feet! I definitely won't be shooting out the pickup window. Has anyone used a DocterSight red dot on any of their rifles? I am thinking of getting one for this 630 for those running coyotes. The factory sights are hard to see for me.
