• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Hello
I am about to purchase a Bofors L461. I hear worries about Strawter barrels. Can these be found on the Bofors guns? If so how does one identify them?
Thanks.

The ‘lightweight sporters’ or strawters were an ‘A’ series model. Nothing to be concerned about with a Bofors marked barrel.

So does “strawter” mean lightweight sporter? Got me curious what the worry or concern is about them. Couldn’t find strawter in the dictionary if you don’t mind giving more explanation

Thank you deersako.
Furdown, I just saw the term online by someone complaining that the thin strawter barrel was not accurate.
Not a worry with the Bofors I am happy to learn.

Ok thanks. Thin like a straw...maybe

It’s a name for the Lightweight Sporters that’s been thrown around, a ‘straw’ thin barrel.
I bought one new, .222R, in the 80’s.
While accuracy was fine from a cold barrel, even a few shots close together had the barrel hot with accuracy suffering.
That never suited it’s intended purpose, and it was moved on for a standard sporter which I still have.

Never heard of that term............but, was brought up on "pencil-barrel".

Some of the old O'Brien Rifle Co. barrels.........you would not believe. :)
