• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

I'm looking for an AV stock top replace one broken in shipping. There seem to be a few on ebay. Has anybody ever bought one from there before?

The fellow who has quite a number of Sako stocks on ebay (I believe he goes by Hunts4antiques) was banned from this board for "misbehavior". Several people I either know personally or have communicated with have bought stocks from him. Some of them have been very satisfied and some have reported a problem of one type or another. I can't recommend against doing business with him, but as with any remote purchase you should always use whatever precautions are available to you.

I had no problem with an FTF purchase from him before whatever happened to cause his being banned. I had even recommended him on occasion.

What his inventory is, as I was told, is a lot purchase of Stoger's returned (ie. warranty) stocks.

A purchased an L579/AII varment stock for $275.

I live in West Orange, NJ. A while ago I saw an L61R stock on eBay that interested me. I drove up to Dan's house to look at it. It was in nice condition, but it looked like some one had free floated it. I passed on it because I wanted one with the pads on the fore end for up pressure. In his garage there had boxes of stocks stored vertically . They looked that they had been in damp storage. Many were covered with mildew. Others had abrasions where they had banged together in the boxes. Some were covered with small chips. It appeared that they had stuck together in the boxes and upon removal pulled the finish off eash other. Others appeared nearly new. He had a right angle high speed buffer in his garage that he was using to try to polish the finish on the damaged stocks. He also told me that he had boxes of broken stocks with buttpads. During our conversation I asked him if he had acquired these from Stoeger. He said that he acquired them from his deceased grandfather's estate and that his grandfather was a gunsmith? that specialized in Sako stocks

Sounds like the same guy. When I saw them, there were some in marginal condition that could use a refinishing and others that appeared nearly new. If I were he, I would have done as he did - sold off the marginal ones first to test the market and then sold off the newer appearing ones. If he did it the other way around, the marginal ones would end selling last as distressed merchandise. He certainly didn't represent their condition to me. Of course I was there and could see them.

I to have purchased from Dan. Stock was not as represented. It had issues with the finish. I tried all the tricks to fix the problem but eventually had to have it refinished. There are not many options when you need an older Sako stock. He is the only one that has them. I spoke with him about a year ago when I was looking for a 995 stock and he stated that his inventory was running low but it seems that he has more available than ever.

The story he told me was that his neighbor was one of the main guys at Stoeger and that he had purchased all the stocks that Stoeger had many years ago. He said his neighbor stored them in his basement which was damp and that some of the stocks did in fact have mold on them. I think that was the issue with mine. The mold ate through the finish.

Before I would purchase another stock from him, I would be sure to get as many pictures as possible and speak directly with him on the telephone. I think this would minimize any issues.

Good luck with your purchase.
