I have a mid 1960’s Balfour Steel marked Forester in .308. There is a crack in the stock near the bolt handle can anyone recommend a good person who can repair it. I have asked around LGS and they all same the same thing the guy we use to recommend died. I live on Long Island in NY. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

My local smith has done a bunch of stock crack repairs. He uses a simple method. Super glue run into the crack and clamps applied to close the crack. The repair is seamless and lasts forever.

Dennis Earl Smith in Maupin, Oregon would be another craftsman whose work is world famous. Spoke with him yesterday regarding a fault line in a Steyr Mannlicher stock. Repair of broken dreams is only one facet of stock making Dennis has perfected. View his work on Accurate Reloading Forums under checkering. Really nice stuff. Google is your friend in this case.
