• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Stith Sako mounts?

Sako Collectors Club Discussion Forum

Hey ccryder,
Firearms International advertising literature from the Mid 50's lists the following companies that supplied scope mounts for the "short action" Sako rifle. Sako, Armstrong, Stith, Leupold and Kesselring.

Now ain't that clever: A dovetail to sit on top of another dovetail! You would have thought that Stith would have simply cut a set of dovetails directly into their rings to fit the Sako dovetail, thus negating the need for the extra piece.

I'm continually amazed at the Rube Goldberg-type designs that some scope/mount manufacturers came up with for the Sako dovetail. I think the all-time looser must be the gawdawful Weaver set screw "secured" aluminum bases to allow you to use Weaver's perenially ugly aluminum-steel scope-bender/scratcher rings.

Think what you want but this is not a common item. I'm sure someone would like to have it just to have it. You know, like "Look at this thing Stith made for SAKO". At the time, there we hunters who probably thought this was a good thing. A real collector might like to have this around as a part of the strange and unique items made for that obscure rifle from Finland. I note the lack of one proper ring screw, but for a few bucks - what the heck. If I were a true "nuts and bolts" guy, I would probably get it for shits and grins.
No offense intended, but I find it amazing how easy it is to chastise in no uncertain terms what some companies have gone through to help make things work on SAKO rifles. Isn't it nice that all the mounting solutions have been rectified today:shocked3:? Optilocks have solved the issues of the direct mount rings, for sure. So now we bitch about how much they cost:wink2:.

Ditto it is nice to see some companies tring to cater to a rare breed which tells me that either the factory mounts were too expensive , lack of availibility or the weaver rings were way to dominate for the reasons mentioned earlier

In the end, it is good to have choices. What is beautiful and reasonably priced to me is ugly and expensive to you. I for one like to hear honest opinions from the members here and then we can each decide for ourselves. We are all big boys and if we all agreed all the time, what fun would that be?
