I left Montana the first of February and headed south to Arizona, then Texas and through New Mexico to Colorado. I am spending the night here before heading to Fredonia, Arizona after a visit it Mesa Verde National Park. On the way through Albuquerque I stopped at Cabela’s and saw a few Sakos. A 222 mag Bofors deluxe with a cut barrel and pine cones scratched into the floor plate and trigger guard. They had a nice 243 and 2 Mannlicher L61 in 270 and 30-06. No bargains, but they did say the 270 had the original box and it also had the swivel protector on the rear swivel. This gun may be unfired, it certainly was in good shape.

Remember the Alamo! What those Texans were fighting for looks like a mistake to me, they could have left that part of Texas to the Armadillos...

If you're coming to southern Arizona, drop by. I am in Tucson. Send me a PM if you're going to be in this part of the state.

I spent 2 weeks in Mesa, went through Tucson on the way to Texas. I am headed across northern Arizona to Fredonia before I head back to Montana. It would have been nice to have gotten together when I was down south.

Caught some drag racing in Phoenix...

Hi Kirk, Nice photos, but don`t you know that drag racing is as addictive as SAKO`s. If I was to go to a race two weekends in a row, I would have mine there the third weekend, hope that I am still retired. I just changed that energy to collecting Mopars. Hope that you made it home safely. Wayne

What....no red lined tires. What engine/transmission? Is it a 65, wasn't that the first year for stacked head lights? I loved the 64 and 65. I was in college working in a gas and we had a customer that had a 64 and another one that had a 65. Man did I have fun moving those beauties in and out of the wash bay to wash and detail. Just like our early Sakos, they don't make cars like that any more.

The stacked lights were the result of David North’s design inspired by the looks of the over/under barrels of a shotgun.

David was the design engineer for GM that gave the GTO that great “wide track” look. He even autographed my car as well as drove it at an exposition in Bozeman for an engineering symposium they had for MSU.

This picture is the front of my car with the poster they made for the event and the artist that designed it...

Tons of history during the whole trip. Here is a sacrificial rock in northern Arizona and some petroglyphs...

Looks like your ready to call some coyotes with your full camo on. Did you ever find a hog to shoot in Texas?

I went to my cousins place toward Houston and saw a small herd at an unknown distance and shot 1 round toward one pig. No animals were harmed in my attempt...

My wife slipped over the ledge, but was able to hang on to a frog and eventually pull herself back up...
