• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Well, after watching epay for a couple weeks and finally seeing a set of used Sako med 1 inch rings (the originals, before optilock) sell for $165 (with buggered up screw heads no less) - I've decided to give my first set of Talleys a try.

Too rich for my blood.

I know you don't want to hear this but only a few weeks ago I threw away a set of those original rings that came on a used Sako that I bought because the screw heads were buggered up and I didn't want any buggered up screw heads on my otherwise beautiful deluxe Sako. I did not know about this forum at the time and did not know how much people desired those buggered up mounts. If only I had known, I would have gladly shipped them to you for my shipping cost. I just had no idea that anyone would want a set of those mounts with buggered up screw heads. I have always preferred the old Redfield mounts. By the way I purchased a set of new Redfield mounts, however, they were made in China and not nearly as good as the old Redfield mounts that I remember.

When I bought one of my Sako's it had Leupold mounts on it . I have Talley bases and rings on all my guns so I ordered the Talley setup for my A1. They look good on the gun and have held zero since mounting them. When you put the bases on ,tap them up on the dovetail firmly with a piece of wood and set the retaining screw lightly. Nothing has moved after fireing approximetly 400 to 500 rounds.

I know what you mean about the prices on ebay,I have been following the Sako ring prices !

mash, next time just don't tell me about it ;)

I know, Talleys are great. I just like the old one piece mounts.

These are still 16 hours out and look where they're at. I ran em up a bit just to see how high this guy's got his max bid set at. Had to stop for fear that I might actually buy them and be stuck paying nearly $200 for a set of rings.... unbelievable...

Nimrod -

I agree some of the prices on Sako accessories have hit some pretty astronomical levels as of late. Gripes me as much as it does anybody to see rings sell that high, or the opening bid on an L-46 clip at $150-165... The thing is, sellers aren't stupid, and you can't really blame them for trying to get as much out of their merchandise as they can. If blame for high prices is to be laid, it belongs at the feet of the bidders and buyers. Sorry to say it, but your jacking up the NIB rings, and hoping not to get stuck with them is part of the problem.

Suggest we all just stick to what we consider reasonable bids - fact is, we're gonna have to pass a lot of auctions up. These particular rings, being NIB, were bound to go high, However, I've bought a number of decent sets of mediums lately. Most I've paid is about $60.

Guess something that I often think about since I joined the Club is that maybe the guy I'm bidding against is a fellow club member... Maybe he just aquired a pristine old rifle and needs the clip or rings or hood worse than I do.

Anyway, don't mean to bust your chops. Encourage all to not get crazy with the bidding. Dick

No offense taken and a valid point.

The thing is, I was never the high bidder. Every bid I placed never got me up to what the guy's max bid was. I never had the high bid. I was willing to go $150'ish bc they were new in the box. Heck that didn't even get me close. After that, I just got caught up in it. It wasn't that I wouldn't have paid. It was just that after the fact I was darned glad I didn't end up with them.

It is what it is. I don't think anyone is to blame - not the seller or the buyer. It has just come to be the nature of the beast - supply and demand.
