• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

I am new to Sako having shot an 8MM Mauser and a Remington semi-auto 30-06 as my two game rifles growing up. I have been out of hunting (not shooting) 40 years and want back in.

I have the opportunity to buy an A5 S/N 601XXX Deluxe version 30-06. A truly beautiful weapon with an older Nikon scope. Is it worth $950 US? I think I placed the production date in the 1981-85 range - is this correct?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Nine-fifty is an attractive price for a Deluxe A-V .30-06 if it is in nice condition. The scope and mounts are a bonus. Early to mid-80's would be about right as to production date.

Several calibers will bring more than the .30-06, but none are better for all-around hunting than the fine old '06. I bought a Sako Deluxe .30-06 for my son when he was 15; now some 20 years later he could have his choice of nearly any caliber Sako he wishes but he insists on shooting his '06 at everything from whitetails in Texas to elk in Colorado to kudu in Africa.

Yes you cant go wrong with the 06 best all rounder you can buy

Brought a trg-s in 30-06 cant wait to get from the usa and into australia and head for the hills

There are Better cals but you dont have the range to reload for

Buy it good price

Sweet gun - excellent condition - 1 very small ding in the stock; otherwise I would have thought it was new.

Thank you for your input

lensman: good gun, good caliber and good price. It would be hard to improve much on what you are looking at and it would be splitting hairs it you did so. Let us know if you get it.

I bought the gun - I had pretty much decided to do so before I joined the Club/forum - I will post photos as soon as I learn how. I was first attracted to the absolute beauty of the rifle, the feel of the action and the reputation of Sako. Until now, my concealed carry weapon (Seecamp) was my priciest weapon; most of my toys are several decades old.

I have a few concerns; everything thing I have read on the forum refers to stamping in the receiver to indicate the action and/or Garcia importation, etc and I can find none of these items. What am I doing wrong. Is there a good source for a basic Sako primer?

Thanks

Hey lensman24,
Look on the underside of the barrel just in front of the stock forearm. Your AV should have the Stoeger import stamp, unless the rifle was not imported into the U.S., at which point there will be no importer stamp.
