• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

It is too bad Sako only made a few pistols, and if I find one I won't be able to afford it, so what do you shoot for handguns and shotguns?

I carry a Sig Sauer 229 in .40 S&W; and a Sig 230 in .380 for pistols. For revolvers, a Smith 66 in 357, with 2.5 inch barrel, and a Smith 629 Mountain in 44 mag. Although I have more, these are the ones I would trust with my life.
For 22 pistols, a Ruger Mark II with 5.5 inch bull barrel, and a Smith 2206.
Shotgun- a Benelli SBE, which to me is the perfect automatic shotgun. A 19 inch barrel Winchester Model 12 is by the bed though.

Let me know what your favorite pistol, revolver, rimfire handgun and shotgun is. (The guys with the Sako shotguns better be honest!)

Interesting thread on the Sako board, but if those here can appreciate Sakos, what other firearms do they like?.

When it comes to shotguns, a beretta 20 gauge o/u for small game but a Benelli SBE in camo for waterfowl. In the middle of January, 15-20 degrees, and a 20-30mph blow from the Northwest, that's duck killin' weather!! Due to the forend channel and slightly raised rib, I find the Benelli very easy to hit with.

As far as handguns, I have about 8 or so, not a big collection, but my favorite is a Kimber .45. As with a Sako rifle, everything feels "right", the grip, the safety, the slide release, and very accurate. My 2nd favorite is a S&W; 686 stainless, 6" barrel.

A great .22 rifle is the Mauser 201. It reminds me of a Sako- palm swell, slide safety on right, safety locks bolt, and accurate as hell. As many a dead tree rat will attest. These were only brought into the US a few years and now command a premium. Well, that's my $.02.

It is interesting to see that many of us have the same interests in other types of guns that we shoot and/or collect. I've read the two posts here and I've seen Smith model 66 .357, which I have one of those, I also have a stainless Smith mdl 19 in .357. One of the first handguns that I bought was a Sig 229 in .40S&W; that has seen thousands of rounds and has yet to fail, and I also have a Kimber CDP II .45 (have you tried the .22lr conversion kit for your Kimber yet, Dave?). As for shotguns, I hunted with an Remington model 1100 for years before I just decided to put it up, then picked up a Mossberg 500 pump that I used for driving deer hounds and shooting ducks and geese....great shooter, just no endurance. After 5 years of hard use, the thing just simply fell apart and I had to part with it. Now, I exclusively shotgun hunt w/ a Franchi 912 Variomax in camo. It too has the elevated rib like the Benelli and Beretta guns. Clay shooting is done with my Beretta 686E gold sporting O/U.
