• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Hello Fello Sako friends,
Here at last are the photographs of the Sako Rings & Mounts that I have recently aquired. Notice how different the rings are. Does any one out there have any of these? and when were this type made? A friend of mine has said that these R's & M's were the first type that Sako manufactured. How true this is I don't know.

Blackjack,
Sorry again, Your rings ARE exactly the rings I directed you to on Gunbroker.com. In the search block on Gunbroker, type in 181263106 to see your rings. Two sets of these rings are also on E-bay, with, as I pointed out, the modern tamper-resistant plastic casing (Blue cardboard backing). Your rings ARE late 80's early 90's (at the very earliest 1988-89). These rings are very common and were the option prior to the Optilocks. Not sure what you were looking at when you stated you saw the rings on Gunbroker that did not look anything like these.

Hey Will,
Have a bead on what vintage these are? Disregard what it says on the box. These are 1" low's.

Hey S-A,
The box tells the story. If the rings came in that box, they are Stoeger import era, approx. 1979 ish to 1987 ish. The small caps "sako", letter font, and blue color were a Stoeger era thing. From what I have myself and what I have seen, it is virtually impossible to ascertain the difference in the rings themselves from the earliest (late 50's early 60's) to 1987 ish.
Regards, Will

Will,
Thanks for the information. I just mentioned the box because the ring height is incorrect., which I actually knew they were mediums, but typed low for some reason. That's good to know about the printing on the box. I guess this would at least be the style rings Blackjack is looking for.
What were the rings like prior to these that blackjack is actually looking for? You have a picture in you library?
Thanks,
S-A

gunner 620,
They are mediums. Thanks for pointing that out. I don't know what I was thinking when I typed that. I got them for an L46. I need to find a 1" tube scope now.:bigsmile3: I haven't had one of those around for quite awhile. You think a 3x9 is too much for a .222 Rem?

While we're on High, Low, Med. Can some one tell me what the clearance difference might be between the objective and barrel when you compare Sporter and Heavy?
How much do you lose with Heavy Barrel?
The L461 HB I'm waiting to get home comes with the high ones shown on the box above, and I am led to think I can only just get a 40mm obj. Does this sound right? Looking at VX3 3.5-10x40. (about 46mm O.D.)
Paul.

Hello 16Ir, Misako50, Sala'ampuja, Stonecreek, Mcgrif2243, Paulcon, and all who have contributed to "Vintage R's & M's.
I would like to apoligise to all those that I doubted regarding my so called "Vintage" R's & M's. Thank you for putting me straight. I do like these R's & M's of mine and prefer the rounded top rings to the original "Vintage" R's & M's. I have never seen or handled the "Optilok" R's & M's so I can't comment on those.

P.S. Can someone comment on the little Nibb on the rear mount dovetail. I can't understand why Sako made the Nibb so much smaller then the notch on the rear of the rear dovetail. I am very much in to precision fitting, and I think this could of been inproved upon.
Mike

Mike,

The nibb is designed to stop the rings from moving forward from the recoil. However, I do not personally think they are needed. I have a couple with the nibb removed and have not had any issues. In reference to the fitment gap is to allow for windage adjustments. Hope this helps.

Hello Emmerth,
I agree with you about the Nibb not being needed for the rear - mount The sheer fact that the Sako - Action has the reverse dovetails inticates that the Scope & Mounts will not move forward. Interesting comment about windage - ajustment. Perhaps the notch in the rear mount was more for the "Peep - Sight.

Mike,
We go through this all the time. No worries. I just threw the picture of mine up there in case I want to put a scope on my 50's vintage L46, 222 Rem Sporter. It has the peep sight but I won't be able to confirm the "nib" on that until I get it in the next week. I probably will leave it just as it is anyway. No scope.
Regards,
S-A

Hey all,
The notch on the rear dovetail has nothing to do with the peep sight, as the peep sight does not have a nipple on it. the peep sight is in position when it slides on until it wedges with the dovetail base. then you simply tighten the side screw.
Regards, Will

Do the old 100/200 peep sights have any windage or elevation adjustment screws or something like that? Or are they factory set and sent out with the rifle they are supposed to be on? I guess when I get my L46 in 222 I'll be able to figure that out. Too much time on my hands. (Not Really).
