• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

I have been waiting on this stock for close to a month. At first I was told it was a Heavy barrel stock for an L579. Then I was told that it is for a L461 vixon heavy barrel. I believe this is correct, but I would like to know for sure, so I can advertise it correctly to be sold.

Just measure the stock screw holes center to center. If it is smaller than 6 7/8 " then it is an L461. It does look like one. Great looking stock what I can see of it. -Misako

It is a very nice stock, it has only minor blemishes. The grain looks great. It measures approx. 6 1/4" center-center. I don't own a L461.( I got this stock in trade for other Sako parts.) If I can't sell it, I'd love to find one that needs a stock for myself.

Heavy barrel stocks in L579 are a rarity. The L461 in HB are somewhat rare also, so you should not have trouble selling it. If it were a sporter stock I would try to buy it. I realize it has some nicks and dings and a few other problems but nothing that can't be redone.-Mike

The L461/AI action actually does have a c-t-c hole spacing of 6.25".

I suspect that the stock was made for an AI action, since the stock top right profile goes from the ejection port(front), straight/flat to the rear.

Nice looking stock!

Yep. I meant to imply that it's a very nice custom, or reworked, stock.

I don't recall any L461/AI HB's with wrap-around forend checkering, or Pachmayr White Line rifle pads.

Still.........a very nice hunk of wood !!!

Kevin

Dunno - since I don't own a L461 HB, I'm just guessing. but sure seems like it would be about a mid 60s, with that grip cap and low comb. I would have thought the wrap around checkering would have continued on throught from the L46s...? Also don't know for sure, but thought the port relief was a L46 deal and assumed the 461 would have been a flat-top to match the 57s, 579s and 61s. Agree the pad is aftermarket, but it looks to be very nicely done. It is a handsome bugger. Dick

So, Is it safe to say that this is for a L461 heavy barrel? What is the difference between the L46, and the L461? Is this the measurement between the screws?

wmumma05- The l46 has a rotary safety and a squared bolt shroud. The stock is designed for the clip fed bottom metal. The L461 has the Magazine box and hinged floor plate and a safety that is on the side of the reciever, that slides.-Mike
