• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

I have just started to entertain the thought of selling my Sako Safari rifle in .375 HH.
Don't see many of these around & fewer available for sale.
Would like to hear from any serious buyers or other sellers with similar rifles.
Thanks
Paul

Rick, can you give us some info on the differences between the AV and the L61R safari models?
I notice that some safari models have only 1 recoil lug and others have 2.

Hi Rick,
Sorry I can't answer your question as I do not know if it is an AV or L61R.
It has been burried in my safe & has not even seen the light of day for 6 years.
I bought this used in 1986, serial number 552195.
You mentioned there are plenty of these around.
I've done some searching online & have so far only found one for sale.
Can you point me elsewhere to look at some others ?
Thanks
Paul

If it is a true Safari model, it should be on an AIV action and stamped as such on the receiver in front of your serial number. I've seen only a handlful for sale in the .375 over the last few years, and even less numbers pop up for sale in rarer calibers like .300WM and .338Win. If you have one in mint(y) condition, it is worth some money and in demand. Hopefully, current economic conditions won't deter too many potential sales.

good luck,
DeerGoose

yes, the quarter ribbed barrel. Real good for target aquisition and sight alignment on the big dangerous game. But, I really don't know about this, as I've never been hunting in Africa or for the big brown bears up North.

Yes this rifle does have a quarter rib along with folding sights & a hooded front sight.
Which I believe Sako only used on these Safari Grade rifles.
Rick said there are lots of these around, but never said where.
Again after searching online I have only come up with one for sale.
As well as an old sale from two years ago.
Thanks
Paul

There are not "lots of these around". I have only seen a handful with the 1/4 rib. Most folks assume the Sako with the hard sights and 2 lugs are the Safari models.....they are not. You have a real collectors piece there. Regards, Rick.

Hi Philippe,
I did not have any luck with your recommendation to Arms Auction item #8837953.
Looks like you tried to attach a link but it did not work.
I went to google.com and did a search for ArmsAuction.com but did not have any luck. I did find a Sako 75 in .416 Rigby listed as a Safari Rifle, which is true.
But it is not what is known as a Sako Safari Grade rifle it is a different rifle and does not have the quarter rib or folding express sights unique to the Safari Grade rifle.
I'd be happy to look again if you can direct me to the site where you found item #8837953.
Thanks
Paul

Thanks Mike,
Philippe had sent me to ArmsAuction which did not work.
Auction Arms .com item # 8837953 is a Custom rifle made to look similar to the Safari Grade rifle. Note there is no recoil lug & the quarter rib looks like an add on.
Nice looking rifle in .375 HH but again not the same as a true Sako Safari Grade.
Often any rifle in the large calibers may be called a safari gun, & could in fact work for that purpose. But this does not make it the real deal, please take a look for yourself.
Thanks again
Paul

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back around to this.
Yes this is the real deal, as mentioned it is a Sako Safari Grade rifle in.375 H&H; Mag, Imported by Stoeger & made on an AIV action with the proper quarter rib &
folding express sights, Serial number 552195.
Comes with a Bausch& Lomb 1.5 - 6 power scope.
Please take a look at the photos.
Thanks

Grizz here, I've got a Safari grade in 375 built on the AIV action with the one cross bolt. Not only is it mint, (looks unfired) it has the best looking wood I've ever seen on a Safari grade and I've seen quite a few. This would be the last Sako I would ever part with. I got real lucky when I found it at my local gun show back in Nov 05. The guy was asking 2995.00 for it so I says "would you take 2000.00 for it?" He says "no, but I'll take 2150.00 for it" I had that wad of cash out of my pocket at warp speed! Every once in a while, I gets lucky.
