• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Sako rings...?

Hi All, just bought some rings for my Sako L61R which is in .270 and I'm not convinced they are Sako although they were sold to me as such. The thing is that the fron ring and base fits well on the integral tapered base but the rear overhangs at the front by over quarter inch, as if it's too long. The rings are secure enough but it doesn't look right. I'm going to try and attach a picture but if I can't can someone let me know if this is normal and acceptable from my description. Here goes with the pictures !

That sounds like a Redfield base. The rear base on the Redfield normally does extend out over the ejection port about a quarter of an inch. If you can post a picture, we will know for sure.

IF THEY ARE REDFIELD BASES, DO NOT INSTALL THEM. They leave a shiny dent in the ramps. Sako rings and bases have two pieces the one piece base and lower ring all machined from the same block of steel and an upper ring with 4 screws to tighten the scope. They are marked SAKO on one and FINLAND on the other. They are polished to a high luster and match the rifle perfectly. Regards, Rick.

If you want to minimize risk of denting the receiver, try to slip a piece of shim stock between the receiver and rings so the screws don't bear directly on the receiver.
