• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

I recently purchased a Sako Riihimaki 222. Before going to the range I wanted to cycle some rounds through it, well you cant close the bolt slowly without the round jamming just after moving forward. I've tried 2 kinds of ammo and 2 different clips. If I slam the bolt closed with quite a bit of pressure it loads fine. Why do I have to ram it?

I was wondering if the magazine needs tuned or does the feed ramp need some polishing?

I just hate to start modifying stuff without talking to some more experienced users first.

The clip that came with the gun says nothing on the bottom, is this aftermarket?

The other clip says 222 rem on the bottom, does it look original?

Thanks for any help and advice.

Woodman- I assume the cartridges are a good fit. You might try slightly opening up the lips on those clips and try it then. The clip without the Cal.222 on it, is an aftermarket clip. Should work just fine. Others with much more experience should be weighing in before long. You shouldn't have to "ram" anything in a Sako to get it to work properly.-Misako

Woodman,
I agree with Misako. I would try a minor adjustment to the magazines a little at a time until the cartridge sits high enough in front to feed bettter. Start with the "aftermarket" magazine. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, take it to a known gunsmith. I don't think you will have to mess with the feed ramp.

I pried the lips up slightly and that did the trick, now it works like you would expect.

Slickity Riihimakity!!!

Thanks guys!! Cant wait to shoot this baby then make some reloads. I'll check the site for some hand load recipes, probably some good ones on here.

The Lyman "Accuracy Load" is 19.5 gr 4198 with a 50gr bullet with a CCI Std SR primer. I have used the 50 gr Sierra Blitz for 44 years in mine. Benchresters consider this a pretty standard load, so there must be something to it. My deuce shot 5/8-3/4" 5-shot groups consistently for many years.
