• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

I have a P 54 sako 22 cal bolt action rifle and I know very little about the
history of this particular gun. It has no model number. On the barrel
near the action is " SAKO RHIIMIMAKE " . On the other side of the
barrel is BOFORS Steel. Model number is 34408. Nicley finished
hand checkered walnut stock. Bluing is nice with little wear.
Adjustable trigger and this one is truly a tack driver.
I'm in need of a magazine for this Sako. Where might I get one????
I'm a proud owner of several SAKO firearms and I would appreciate any help you can give me.
Thank you,
Glen

Its marked 22 LR on the side of the Barrel between the rear sight and action. Thanks Dick. Glen

Ok Glen -

It puzzles me that there isn't more talk of the P54s here. Looks like they made over 24,000 of them from 54 to 72. Possible, maybe likely, few were imported to the US? Not sure - wish I did know more about them. If you go back a ways in the rimfire catagory believe you'll find some posts about P54s. I know there's some photos also in our archives...

I expect landing a clip will be a chore, and likely expensive. It'll be worth it though.

Wild guess - your rifle was made mid-60s.

I've taken the liberty of moving your thread to the rimfire department - think it will serve you better.

Best luck Dick

Dick, I've done a lot of internet research on finding my magazine. Looks like a mag. from a model 84 savage mag. will fit. thank you. glen

Received Model 84 savage Mag today. It fits my P54 very well and works.

That's great news Glen! Way to think outside the bun buddy. Thanks for letting us all know.

Dick

Glen, was this an standard magazine for savage 22 lr, like this ( https://www.midway.se/epages/Midway...ps/MidwaySverige/Products/754244&Locale=sv_SE ) that fits an several of savage models or was it only for savage 84? This info would really help me to find a magazine for my p54!

Well, I ordered this magazine on "win or loose" and guess what? It works!
Alltough its not 100% for my rifle. I must shut the bolt before i push the reloaded magazine in to the slot, otherwise it will slide in too deep and touch the bolt when you try to shut it.
Also found out that Winchester ammo feeds much better than Seiler&Bellot (not a suprise).
I can live with that, got this magazine and rifle for the half of the price it would had cost me complete.

Happy New SAKO year guys!

Johan

Johan:

Thanks for that useful information verifying that a Savage magazine will work in a P54. There seem to be very few P54's floating about in the U.S., but having that information could help one of your fellow Sako enthusiasts a great deal should they come across one of them.

It is possible that just a little bit of fitting might allow the Savage magazine to insert with the bolt open, but as you point out, having to insert it with the bolt closed isn't a big deal.
