A pic of the bolt lugs would be very helpful. The pics shown tell us little. The front action bridge looks too long for an AI action & the diameter seems too large as well. Looks more like a L491 or 75 to me.

Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Pic of the mag or floor plate & the diameter of the action at the barrel would also be helpful.

The MRI actions also have a slightly different recoil lug system, mono block or something like that.
My son has one in .270 win. It’s a very hefty gun, but it shoots lights out.

My understanding is that MRI built their Mountain Eagle rifles on S491 and L691 (possibly some M591 as well) actions supplied by Sako - I've also seen at least one Sako L691 / MRI action for sale in the white. Distinguishing feature of these actions is the round top that Stonecreek mentioned. TO2160's rifle is definitely built on one of these actions by MRI or someone else - finish looks like some type of chrome or NP3.

If you look closely at the TO2160's photos, you'll notice the bolt guiding strip - M75 bolt (pictured below) doesn't have one.

I’m also thinking the MRI rifles are milled to accept Remington 700 style bases?
My vote goes for S491 action. The bolt release button is -91 series type. Also the bolt diameter looks significantly thicker than what you'd expect from A1 and the ejection port corners aren't radiused, but that kind of double angle deal. This is the first round top S491 I have seen, but I have seen round top M591 and L691, so it makes sense they made round top S491 too.

I believe you have the correct analysis. I haven't seen or handled enough 91 series rifles to detect some of the subtle differences from a photo. All I saw was a different looking bolt release & what was possibly too big of a bolt for it to be an AI. Thanks for the detail!
So far as I've observed, all of the MR actions were on the relatively short-lived "XX91" series of Sako actions. All three of the XX91 actions (L691, M591, S491) were the same diameter as well as having the non-integral recoil lug, presumably to reduce manufacturing costs.
