• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

SAKO MODEL HP

Sako Collectors Club Discussion Forum

Jeffy1, same guy but different weights over the years. I also take care of my Sako's by cleaning them after use in the field or range and many have field "scars" which are usually those that get more use than others.
My post was not meant for any purpose other than responding for the members of this forum to a lack of decorum, as silence is usually good manners, but not this time.
Cheers.

Sometimes guns that are priced well above the actual market on Gunbroker do get bids, but those bids are typically from a shill bidder. Shill bids are sometimes used to trick another would-be buyer into paying more than he otherwise would by presenting a "comparable".

There are other angles that use the shill bid to accomplish, or attempt to accomplish, one or another type of subterfuge. But by and large, overpriced items simple garner no bid. Sometimes they are sold for less money to someone who inquires of the buyer "since you haven't gotten a bid will you take $XXX for it?". Although clearly against the rules, quite a few guns advertised are sold this way in order to avoid Gunbroker's (increasingly excessive) fees.

The last survey I took of Sakos advertised on Gunbroker about 4% of them actually received a starting bid.

no one here would bid because this site is polluted with collectors who only like pristine, unaltered guns. These guns are never used but sit in a safe and grow old,
That comment is insulting, ignorant, and flat-out untrue. All of the members who have commented in this thread have taken game with their Sakos, and most are very active hunters. One of our members owns possibly the rarest Sako in any collection outside of Riihimäki, and he has posted photos of a buck he took with it. To see our members in action with their Sakos, check out this thread:

As for myself, I don't hunt all that much, but I've taken game with Sako and Tikka rifles from my collection. I have no safe queens. Among other rarities, I have a C96 Mauser Flatside, all matching including the holster/stock, in museum condition, which I shoot regularly. I have been told by some Mauser collectors that it's too valuable/rare to shoot; I ignore them. Guys who post that they just inherited a Sako and is it too nice to shoot are invariably greeted with a chorus of "NO! Shoot it! Hunt with it!

I wouldn't bid on your FN-Sako, for these reasons:
1. I already have two of them, one all original in .30-06 and the other a custom in .300 H&H.
2. The wood on that rifle is kind of blah, and I'm a wood freak.
3. I don;'t like shooting a rifle with the scope that high off the stock. I have one German custom rifle with a similar claw mount setup, and one is enough.

Your comment is entirely off base.

They always sell. I have this one, an L61R and an AV TO SELL IN 30/06. I also imported a left handed AV IN 338 Win for myself.
7mm rem mag
30-06
.338 win mag

Three of the slowest moving calibers on the Finnbear market…

Keep dreaming.

This gun is for sale. I'll post it in the appropriate forum.

It was all fine until it got to the point of sales.
OP posted his AD to the wrong forums…then he got all butt-hurt about his “misconceptions”
A few photos of the truth made my day and sent the OP on his way …Thanks Spaher!

If I lowered the price to $100 no one here would bid because this site is polluted with collectors who only like pristine, unaltered guns. These guns are never used but sit in a safe and grow old, like their owners. This rifle was put to its intended purpose with a wonderful set of sights just perfect for hunting. It bears it's wounds as well as it's medals to show an active life in the the hands of a hunter, not some old man who can barely shuffle across the room to the gun vault. .
So you imported a rifle that you knew nothing about, got good information from members, opinions on value, and then call us out as "shuffling old men"? Yeah, I like vintage, pristine rifles, shoot them and hunt with them and try to keep them in tip top condition. Yeah, I'm old, pre-shuffle, and don't credit "wounds" on my rifles as signs of a successful hunt. So, welcome and please show us your next successful hunt or wound to your recently aquired HP.

Come on, man. No reason to insult any member. So we never use our Sako’s huh?View attachment 36650View attachment 36651View attachment 36652View attachment 36653View attachment 36654View attachment 36655View attachment 36656View attachment 36657View attachment 36658View attachment 36659
All Sako’s , should I post more?
There is no need for insults & civility plays well.
Very big looking elk or whitetail on those lower photos , impressive that they can get that large in such environments. I can't imagine what it is like to hunt in the desert.
And that bear wow , must have had some big paws.

I agree the 30-06 isn't as popular as before , I don't have time to reload so I also stepped down to 308 (or 6,5) with most hunters i know. I don't shoot over 100m so for me it is an all-round and easy caliber to buy in every gunshop.
And I have the impression that Mauser actions aren't so popular either anymore. My father who is hunting his last hunts these days bought a new sabatti rifle in 308 last year , he finally got tired of carrying his father's mauser , that was after trying a friend's suppressed sako 6,5. He said it was like shooting a 22lr and liked that it was so light. Even the oldtimers are changing out their mausers.

11 hours left & zero (0) bids at a “reduced” opening bid.
“Eating Crow” is a colloquial idiom that means humiliation by admitting having been proven wrong after taking a strong position. There is still a short bit of time for the market to speak.
Didn’t want this to go unnoted, overlooked.or forgotten.

One reason that I don't care too much for chicken is that it reminds me of all of the crow I have eaten over the years.
