• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Hey all,
Attended the Portland, OR gunshow today and found an exhibitor with a large selection of pistol and rifle magazines. He asked me what I was looking for and I asked if he had any magazines/clips for Sako's. He then asked me for which model? I told him I would take whatever he had if reasonable. He informed me he had a box full at his shop he had not brought to the show and that he wanted to get rid of them. He gave me his card and requested I call him next week. So.....what are you guy's out there looking for? Let me know!
P.S. I found a front sight hood for one of my pre-72 Finnbears! $10

I have in my possession a Sako Riihimaki No. 34480, mid 50s model. Cal. 222 Remington on a Marlin Varmint King barrell. What I am missing is a magazine for this rifle. I have been everywhere, can you help or do you know somebody that can?

Thanks for any Info

LaFrance

lafrance: Aftermarket replacement magazines for the L46 in .222 are not hard to find. Check Gunbroker, etc. Of course if Will comes up with some originals, that would be great!

Goodmorning

How did you determine the model (L46) I went by the No. 34480 on the action which determines the year of make and came up with P54. Will the L46 magazine be compatable to the rifle I have in my possession? I have been to most of the gun sights, Numrich Gun Parts, Jack First, Gun Broker,

Guns America etc. You are the first positive response.

LaFrance

The P54 was a .22 LR. The Marlin was built on the Sako L46 action, often called the "Rihiimaki" model because it had the city (or is it region or "jurisdiction", I forget) of its manufacture stamped on the receiver.

Keep watching. Clips for Sako .222's come up fairly often. Any of them for the L46/"Riihimaki"/Marlin 322 will work in your gun.

Yo Will

Thanks for the come back. I am new at this posting stuff I wasn't sure anybody was reading my posts. Stonecreek advised that an aftermarket mag. for L-46 model was what I was looking for. There is no model number on the Sako that I have only No 34480 on the action and bolt handle. When I matched the No 34480 with a Chart the No 34480 showed that the rifle was made in mid 50s and the model number was P54. Is the L-46 mag compatable with the P-54 model mag.? Or, did I read the Chart wrong and the rifle I have is a Model L-46?

Thanks for your help

Lafrance - What makes this deal a little confounding is that, except for the first couple of years, Sako did not mark the mdl number on L46 receivers... a bit of an oversight, I guess. Yours may have been made in '57 or so. Dick

Great

You don't know how much I appreciate this info. So what I need is a Mag for Cal. 222 Sako Model L46/Riihimaki/Marlin 322? or did you mean 222.

Its been some time since I have had a Sako and am looking forward to putting a few rounds down range. Again Thank You and Will for the help.

LaFrance

Thanks Hayseed

Ya when I read that chart of model numbers it WAS very confusing. Thank you for the input. The men on this site have answered more of my questions in 20min then I have been able to get in 3 weeks of research, gunshows and internet.

Take Care

LaFrance - If you go to the main page here (hit forum button - top left of page) and then snoop in the 'short action', as well as the 'rifles built on Sako actions' catagories, you'll find some discussions on Marlin/Sakos...

Believe what Stonecreek was refering to was that Marlin called their little hybrids mdl 322s...

Say, LaFrance - I'm curious if your Varmint King is marked on the barrel as being made of stainless steel? This discussion sort of jogged my feeble memory, and went back to find a post from '05 to confirm... If it is so marked, Marlin called it a mdl 422, although I don't think that stamping actually appears on the rifle. Apparently there were some longevity issues connected to Marlin's microgroove, and the ss barrel was their solution.

In my limited experience this would be an awful early stainless barrel in anything, and the first I ever heard of blued stainless.

Dick

Yo Dick

I can't find any markings indicating "stainless steel" it is microgroove" I will check your other suggestion in the forum. I have sent out a few inquires describing the magazine as a Sako 222 L-46/Riihimaki/Marlin 322 as Stonecreek advised. No replys as yet.

Thanks

LaFrance

Hey all,
OK, I found out what the guy has and what he wants, and I believe it is good news. The only problem is how do I determine who here gets what? I think I screwed up by putting this out on the forum. Give me some ideas. I want to be fair. Maybe an auction here on the forum? Don't know if that would be OK though. Let me know. Also, he priced three of the magazines, yet I have no clue what these go for. He has a Sako .22LR, a Sako .222 (four round) and a Sako .222 in what he thinks is an 8 round. He has more aftermarket magazines as well for various calibers, some duplicates.

Hey all,
Are any of you interested in the aftermarket Mags? I am thinking of buying the whole lot of Magazines, Sako and aftermarket, this gentleman has. I am not a accumulator of any of the Magazine-fed Sako's and don't want to have to buy a rifle to fit a magazine. Anyway, he has .222, .22-250, .243, 22 Hornet, .308 and .22 Mag.
Regards, Will

Will,

If he has a magazine for a Sako P72 .22 Magnum, I would be very interested. Let me know. This would be different from a P94 magazine.

Will,

I am in the market for 218 Bee either original and/or after market.
