• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

I found a Sako L579 stock. It came off of a 22-250 heavy barrel. My question is, will it fit my 243, and do I need to do anything for it to fit? I need to find out the width of the bottom metal still. The only part I need to be worried about is the width at the extended mount area where the screws go in. The rest doesn't matter. Is this correct? By the way, what is the correct LOP on the forester L579? Thank you

Wayne-Lop can be 13 3/4" to 14/1/4"+ depending on the stock and the bottom metal style. The tang area width is the same front and back for width. You can go to the "click on" to see the old sites pictures. on page 3 under engraving patterns, there is a picture of where to measure.- Mike (this one is wide)

Thanks Mike, You sure do know a thing or two about Sako's. By the way I found I magazine box thanks to your hints as to where to look.

What about the stock coming off of a rifle with a heavy barrel? Will I have any problems fitting it on a 243? The bottom of the stock is correct for my metal.

Don't know that you ever said if your 243 was standard or HB, but I'm assuming it's standard weight? If so, it would likely fit, but look pretty nasty with the huge wood to metal gap. IMO, of course. Dick

Mine is standard, but I was told that the heavy barrels were not real big bull barrels. My concern was about the gap size between barrel and stock.

I wouldn't call the Sako HBs real bull barrels either. They are more of a light-medium varmint taper - usually about 3/4" at the muzzle. However, being a varmint taper, they do taper straight from the full diameter shank to the muzzle rather than the reverse-bell taper of a sporter. The result would be a large and uneven gap in the barrel channel. In my book it would look very dorky. Best for you to stick with a sporter stock. Dick

Not only would there be a rather unsighly gap between the barrel and the barrel channel, but the fore end on a Sako HB stock is a wide beavertail which is out of place on a sporter. Save your sheckels for when an appropriate sporter stock comes along.

Speaking of replacement stocks, an outfit call Sile's used to offer a walnut replacement stock for Sakos that were almost perfect knock-offs of the factory stocks. Does anyone have a Sile stock? You can identify them by the Sile name stamped in the barrel channel.

Still looking for a stock!!! It wouldn't have fit just like you said, Dick. I never was able to open any pictures, but after the gentleman looked at it he did say it was a Beavertail stock, so thanks everyone for saving me the time and $ of shipping it back.
