• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

I purchased a rifle in 308 cal. with Sako l57 No 660 stamped on the action and wards westernfield stamped on the barrel. Paid 150.00 for the gun and really like it for deer hunting. The stock has a chunk that split off and was glued back. Does anyone know where a reasonably priced synthetic can be purchased? Will a stock for 579 Forrester fit?

KLK- The L579 will be close- but your bottom metal will not fit it. The barrels are a tiny bit fatter on a L57 also but that would be an easy fix.- If you can find an L579 stock with the correct bottom metal, then you would be good to go., albeit not perfect but very good.- Mike

KLK- You have a "fishbelly" in the l57 metal that would need to be straightened out to make that bell and carlson ideal or need a build up to make an unaltered L57 work or L579 metal again- The differences aren't world ending but if you are skilled , you could make it nice. -Mike

I seem to recall that the Ward's rifle had a "sight ring" or bulge on the barrel like a Winchester Model 70? If so, then you would need to inlet a small area to accomodate it. Or maybe I just dreamed that of the Wards gun?

Stonecreek- You are still with us on that. One Wards model had one and one of the Coltsman models had one (the "custom").- Mike

I have a stock you may be interested in. Possibly a Coltsman, as there was once a medalion glued into the buttplate where the SAKO "S" usually is. I don't know if Wards did the same.

It is cutout for the barrel mounted rear sight.

My L57 action fits just fine as does my Western Field .308 barrel (Model EJN 750). I will mount the barrel back on the action to see if they fit together if you wish to pursue this further.

PM me

Where are you located? I'm in northern New Jersey

not sure how to pm you. I got this gun to haul around and hunt with. Should it not be used like this. I am new to sako just know they make good stuff and got the gun because it was a cheap hunting rifle. I would just like to have a durable synthetic stock but have not found a place to order one. I am from Ga. 2 hrs s of atlanta

ALCAP, I alsp have a L57 that has a cracked stock and would be interested in the one you have but how big of a difference is there in the bottom metal on a L57 and L579?

That stock is sold, but I have another that may become available later this year. I am interested in your take-off Monkey Wards barrel, however.

L57 bottom metal is wider so L57 metal can be made to fit an L579, but the L579 metal is flat and the L57 has what might be called the"fishbelly" bend to it. You should be able to see this on yours.
