• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Just finished this stock for my L461 in 223AI. This is one of the Gunbroker stocks that are sold by CountryGirl, this one was listed at 65.00 and had some really terrible pics, advertised as Myrtle. I watched it for 3 months before deciding to buy it, figured I would take a flyer at 65.00. My thinking was I could paint it if it was as terrible as the pics showed it to be, finish is an oil finish by Purdy's. Here's how she turned out. Rifle specs are L461 chambered in 223AI, barrel is a Lothar Walther stainless 1-9tw 24" #4, Pentax 4.5x14, and a 65.00 GB special for a stock. The bases are some Burris 2pc slip ons and they don't really slip up on the front dovetail like they should, probably destined for the parts box.

Nice job and great character in the wood. Did you decide that it is indeed myrtle or is it something else. I just got my hands on a thumbhole stock on a sako that really felt good. That was a local guy and he was dying to put a scope on it, so I loaned him one I had just sitting around. I think he is out shooting it today but it is 14 degrees and not fun for most.-Misako

cmjr,
Very nice job, indeed. I have a stock similar to yours I got from them as well. I haven't gotten around to working with it yet. Other irons in the fire.

I'm not sure if it's Myrtle or Maple as it has the light weight and hard as nails quality that both have. My experience is that Maple will tend to have the tiger stripping shown in this stock where the Myrtle will have more of a burl with black highlights. At least the one known Myrtle stock I have is like that, I have several Maple stocks with heavy fiddleback. Seller advertised it as Myrtle but in emails between us I got the impression they didn't really know for sure. I had asked about doing a L491 for me and I would supply the wood, was told they didn't turn the stocks!. My thoughts are they probalby are hooked up with someone who has a duplicator. Pics don't really do this stock justice, you can turn it and the figure fades in and out, especially in bright sunlight. It's a keeper for 65.00.

cmjr- Looks to me like the stock blank "buy of the year". I was snooping around ebay and found this. It is Myrtlewood. Looks like that is what you have. Very neet looking finish color to yours.- Mike
