I have been hunting with my old L46 Hornet and what a wonderfully sweet accurate rifle it is, BUT, it has developed a poor feed from the magazine and I suspect the internals MAY need a clean, (my first option?). Before I go pulling it apart does anyone have a reference to disassembling one.

before you pull the mag apart, by chance have you change the ammo you use to a different brand or to a different shape projectile ?
these beautiful old rifles can be a touch fussy at times.

Push in the detent ball on the bottom plate & slide it off. The spring & follower will fall out. It's just as effective to just spray it with an aerosol gun cleaner, like Gun Scrubber, then lightly oil it. There is not much that can go wrong when you only have two internal parts & only one(the spring) can break. Either your follower is hanging up or your magazine lips need tweaked to allow the rim to exit properly.

Yes I noticed the Remington ammo does go in a little cleaner more frequently but its all a bit random. I suspect part of the problem is also with the magazine fit being slightly loose, its not locking in properly. Might need a visit to the local gunsmith.

    Thanks for the advise.

Ammo for it is pretty limited unfortunately, and expensive (I'm in Australia). I have been shooting the Winchester 45 grain jacketed soft points, and the similar Remington version. The Winchesters were part of the problem. I have bought some Hornady 35grn V-Max but at $2 a shot I'm hanging onto them until I get the new scope better dialed in. I did manage to disassemble the magazine, it was very tight, and to clean it out thoroughly. That has made a big difference, no more jams.

I've had the same problem with the Winchester 45 gr. I've shot the Hornady 35gr and my L46 seems to like them better. Waiting on some Federal Premium. Where do you live in Australia? I have been there two times. Planning to go back. Love your country but your gun laws are very strict. Thanks for your response. Let me know how those Hornady shoot.

I'm in the Blue Mountains Ronnie, 1.5 hours west of Sydney. I'll put through some Hornady's next week at the range. and report back, see what kind of grouping I can get. Yep our gun laws are tough but we do have some very good organisations on our side. I shoot light game, goats, rabbits, hares, foxes, cats and smaller pigs with the Hornet. I have a beautiful Australian made vintage .22 and a new .223 arriving next week so fallow deer and bigger pigs will be my targets. Had slow cooked goat shoulder for dinner tonight, bloody good.

I've been to the Blue Mountains. My daughter lived in Australia for 2 years. We fell in love with your country.

At what distance? I was meant to spend yesterday out at the rifle range but we're in full lockdown at the moment.

At this stage who knows, been 3 weeks so far. At least I can get to the local lake for some fly casting practise. Got a friends farm 20 minutes away that's lousy with rabbits but I can't get to it. Heavy fines at the moment and numbers keep growing.

I've had my first shot of AZ, waiting for the second, but the vaccine roll out has been pretty shabby I must say, with a poor uptake as well.
