• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Sako in .340 Weatherby

Sako Collectors Club Discussion Forum

I've got a Sako 75 in 340 Weatherby. Bought it used some years ago and haven't shot it yet... I'm trying to find more information about it... Like twist rate, barrel, etc... Any suggestions?

Is it a Sako factory barrel? If so, I'm sure Sako would have made the twist to SAAMI/CIP specifications which is 1 in 10" or the metric equivalent. Just Google "340 Weatherby Mag twist rate" to confirm. What exactly do you want to know about the "barrel". Without pics & more info that's about all we can help you with. BTW, you can also measure the twist rate yourself with a tight patch on a cleaning rod, a pencil, & a measuring tape.

Thks for the reply.. FYI... I'm getting ready to retire and trying to get my ducks in a row for reloading and more shooting. I've not done much in the last ten plus years... This SAKO 75 was purchased on a whim without much information other than it came in original box, stock and apparently only 8 cartridges through the barrel and missing out of the original Weatherby ammunition purchased with it. I've shot 338's, 45-70's, 454's etc so the thought of a 340 doesn't scare me to much though if it's anything like the 45-70 with buffalo bore +P ammo it just might get sold. It's in excellent condition, it's a safe queen. Any idea on it's value?

Value is a very subjective thing & based on a host of factors. It's nearly impossible to appraise a rifle sight unseen. I suggest you peruse the auction/sales sites & find a comparable rifle & it's selling price to get some idea. Otherwise put it up for auction & let the market place establish it's worth.
