• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Hello Blokes,
Any one out in the World no why Sako didn't make any H.B. "Deluxe" rifles? In my opinion the H.B. L461 & L579 were the best of the best.

Hi, I just did a search and found this. Almost 2 years later and no replies, maybe because it is in the rimfire section? Anyway, I may have found a heavy barrel AII deluxe- not sure yet. How can I tell if it's original or not?

Hi Nick,

As Stonecreek asked, pls post pictures.

The gentlemen on this site will soon get to the bottom of what you are looking at.

Also welcome to the site.

Best Regards,

Rowdy

Thanks, I've bought it anyway but won't get it for a couple of weeks. When I get it I'll put pics up. It's got a deluxe stock like the L579 with angled fore-end tip, whiteline spacers, light wood, skipline checkering, low square cheekpiece. Floorplate has an antelope, trigger guard has leaves, grip cap has a tree. It's an AII action chambered in .22/250. The guy said he was the second owner, and said it had a heavy barrel but it could just be normal. Or it might have had a heavy barrel put on it? I was wondering if a heavy barrel was an option. Just have to wait till I pick it up then I can put some pics up and we can find out what it is. Cheers.

Wow, nickz ! Can't wait to see the pics. You can never say "never" when it comes to the configurations of the older rifles ! This is what keeps my fire lit when searching for the guns to add to my herd. Who would have thunk that there were pre-Garcia L579 HB models in .308, L57 mannlicher carbines, L57 HB mannlichers, or L579 Mannlicher deluxes ? !!!! But, they do exist. My bet is that your "HB deluxe rifle" is a deluxe sporter with the heavier contour barrel as found in the later rifles and before the L-actions were switched over to A-actions. Regardless of the configuration, the caliber is very desireable in a Sako rifle. So, if you've landed a .22-250 deluxe you should be proud ! please let us know and we also like range reports as well !

congrats,
DeerGoose

Well, I picked it up today and I'm pretty happy with it. I'd say it's definitely a heavy barrel, no open sights, stamped Sako cal. .22-250 and says made in Finland on the barrel. Also the recoil pad looks in good original condition and says Sako Riihimaki Suomi Finland. The stock is definitely a deluxe too.

Nick - we would all very much love to see some photos of the rig when you get a chance. I'm wondering if maybe its one of the DW Custer commeratives (will be engraved on the side of the action). These however had super deluxe stocks. I've never seen one in HB but have seen one in .22-250 in a light barrel version.

If you can post some pics it would be very insightful for everyone to see what you have, it could be a very rare beast indeed.

Cheers John

Pics up now mate in the photos section, it's not engraved on the side of the action. Hope the photos can give you guys a better idea of what it is. Cheers.
