• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Approximate value? In good to very good condition. All original, no rings and bases.
Small rub mark here or there on wood and bluing.

Thanks Guys!!

Without seeing it, I would say 900 - 1100 U.S. . There will be some here that tell you $600 - $800 , but I frequent gun shows and websites, and I have yet to see anything under $850 .

Hard to find rifle. Only about 5000 L57 actioned Sako rifles made it to the States, and most were sporters and heavy barrel models, with a few Mannlichers and Deluxe models thrown in. There were a few variants in the grip caps and barrel markings, so pics would be good for us to see if we can find any new items. Also check engraving pattern on the floorplate. congrats on your find.

Dave- This has appropriate bottom metal to place in our album that got started a few weeks ago. This is a pattern I've not seen. The grip cap was hard to make out so if you could take the time and take a shot of the triggerguard, floorplate and gripcap all in one frame, straight on, I'll (with your permission ) post it to the album. Thanks, Mike (Misako)

Misako is right. Another variant of the "deer in the woods" engraving pattern. By my count, that makes at least 3 variants of this pattern, possibly 4 if they are all does ??? Please post a closeup of the engraving pattern. Yes, nice rifle, a little used, and to be honest I'm glad to see it. Rifles are made to be shot and I'm sure yours has taken a bunch of game. Also looks to have the narrower sling swivels. again, congrats on your find, neat rifle.

FYI - this rifle has SN 96xx.

Fairly early L57 I would guess.

I REALLY like the weight and ergo of this. Wish I had one I could rebarrel in 7-08.

Dave- According to the club's info, your L57 is one of the later ones. Actually close to the change to the L579. I do have a colt -sako that needs a new home. It belonged to my grandfather then my dad then me. Gramps hunted moose with it when he got the chance. It's a .308 and still has another 50 yrs. of life left. Getting that to someone that would put it to use is more important to me than the family heirloom traditions. Let us know how that deluxe shoots. I haven't shot a L57 in .243. Regards, Mike

Thanks Mike. Still learning.

Email me a price with shipping to my FFL in WA (99320) on the 308.

I am pretty lean right now but would like to know.

Dave

Meant to add:

This is a neat rifle but neglect has got to the bore with some rust pits so I have no idea how well it'll shoot but hope to go this Friday.

thanks, Dave for posting the pic.

I can't get to it now, but will later and will forward ???s if I have any. One other thing, is your L57 marked "Forester" only or "Forester Made in Finland" ?
