• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

What do the pros think about the new Finnlight? I am looking at getting one in a 30-06. Is there any loss in accuracy because of the short barrel length (20")? The reason I am looking at the 30-06 is simply because if I am going to buy a light weigh carry around rifle the 30-06 has the shortest barrel and the most versitile grain. What do you guys think?

A shortened barrel doesn't necessarily correlate to reduced accuracy. It does, however, correlate to slightly reduced bullet velocity due to less complete combustion of the gases created by the ignition of the gun powder. Most of the published reloading data and ballistics for the 30-06 are the result of testing with a nominal-length barrel, usually 24". I can't tell you how much velocity difference you'd see by dropping down to a 20" barrel (there are people who know this stuff), but it'd probably be in the neighborhood of about 100 fps at the muzzle.

I have a new Finnlight in 270 WSM and am very happy with it. Good huntin'.

Thanks for the response. The dealer that I picked up my Finnlight 30-06 from also had one in a .270 wsm. I had been reading of the new short magnums, but went with the 30-06 for grain versitility. I hope I am as happy with mine as you are with yours. Hopefully I'll find out this weekend. :)

I am no pro, but locally a LOT of us hunt with the Finnlight. A good friend of mine, his name is Bud, my brother, and I all use SAKO Finnlights in caliber 6.5 X 55. While sighting in, with various factory (mostly Winchester) and or handloaded ammo, we all acheived sub 1" 100 yrd groups from a bench rest. Admittedly we had the occasional flyer and the handloads certainly grouped tighter. I have had good experience in the past with Norma, but it has simply become too expensive to buy. You will be very happy with this rifle. My favorite load for this is 45 grains of 4350 using 129 grain nosler ballistic tips. Remington primers I believe. Any stories you may have heard about ballisitc tips being ineffectual in bringing down deer just aint so.
