    Hi,

I just picked up a Sako Finnbear Deluxe AV today that is in around 98 to 99% condition. There is not a single mark on the wood nor in the blueing of the gun. Some slight wear on the action of the gun however the bolt facing looks brand new. I bought the gun from the original owner who put less than a box of ammo through the gun. I was curious as to what it may be worth as it sits with Leopold Scope mounts?

I was also curious by the serial number what year this gun was made? I am still fairly new to the Sako world.

I would guesstimate your rifle is from the late 80's. If it's one of the rifles we recently obtained factory records for you can request a Letter of Authenticity. The condition of your rifle would put it in the collector grade class. That being said the 7mm Rem Mag is a very common chambering & the late AV's don't have the collector niche like some other models. We have a saying here, "A rifle is worth what a willing buyer & a willing seller agree to", so I would say you & your friend already established it's value. A very nice rifle & a great find!!

Thank you for the information. I was also curious if this gun is actually considered a Finnbear, since it doesn't say Finnbear anywhere on it.

The late date of the rifle puts it way outside of the factory letter range. To answer one question, Finnbear is more a marketing name than a model name and it is used generously to describe a Sako built on a long action. I have never come to a personal opinion of what they are worth as I've never seen that many sold. I have however seen more than a few priced really high. Like most have said here, they really are beautiful rifles.

I don't like talking numbers on my guns unless they are for sale sorry.

$1200 to $1600 - perhaps more with box and papers.
