• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Sako Deluxe sticky stock?

Just received my used Forester 22-250 with almost a blonde stock. My question is the stock is always sticky feeling. It feels as if a 4 year old has been drewling on it and playing with it.

When I received the gun I cleaned the wood which had that sticky feeling. Now it looks shinny and nice but the wood has a tacky feeling to it. It is a Stoeger import gun with a Sako original stock and original finish.

Anyone see this before?

Yes. This was a problem with the early Stoeger rifles, right around 1980 or so. Rumor has it that Finland's version of the EPA made them change the recipe on the laquer/finishes, and the new finish turned sticky. Sako eventually corrected this problem. I've got a Super Deluxe from '83 that has the sticky stock, makes me sick.

Oh sh*&^, is there something we can do about that? I have a Forester 22-250 on GB now for $895 and I'm thinking I should have kept her instead. The blueing is rougher but the stock is dry and correct.

Never heard of this until I had a guy ask me how my Forester stock felt sticky or whatever. Never knew what he meant but now I do.

Any corrections to this as the blueing is beatiful like a Colt Python in Royal blue. Just amazing. The stock tho is sticky and the barrel doesn't feel like it is floating from the stock.

I think my standard Forester is free floating. Lots of questions at this point. Any help is appreciated.

you say "Forester", and I immediately think L579 action. I believe that all of the sticky stock problems are witnessed on the A-series actioned Stoeger rifles. If you've got an L579 "Forester" with this problem, that will prove me wrong. Is your deluxe an AII or an L579? Is is stamped "Forester"?

This is the first I've heard of an L actioned Sako experiencing the sticky stock problem. See, I learn from you guys all the time !!!

Good luck w/ your issue, I know it can be tough dealing with it on such a great rifle.

Now I notice the barrel doesn't float like my standard Garcia L579 22-250.

Aren't all Sakos supposed to float the barrel of these models?

I have a few Sako sporters. _ Some of them have a varnish like finish. _More than one of them were a little sticky to the touch. _It includes an A1 model _and _an earlier Vixen model in 223. _It has not appeared on an oil finished Sako. _I have somewhat fixed the problem by applying stock wax made by Birchwood Casey. _

Thanks I'll try that. The more I clean it and rub it the better its getting. The seller called me and told me to lightly rub gun oil on it like 3-1 once a week for a few weeks.

Who knows!

Thanks Tho!
