• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Hey all,
So, I'm Bidding on a pristine Browning Safari Grade, .300 Win Mag, 1970 no salt. (I love these almost as much as my Sako's). Never paid any attention before but from looking at the pictures and if my eyes don't deceive me, the original front sight on the Browning is identical to the ones on my Sako's. Having never owned both kinds of rifles at the same time, I never made the connection. So....we all know Browning Safari Grade Medium and short, barreled actions were supplied by Sako and the long/magnum action was FN. Also, several import rifles with FN Actions had Sako triggers. So....we know there was a connection between Browning/FN and Sako. So....is the ramp front sight Sako, Browning/FN, or a sub-contractor?
What to do you guys think?
Regards, Will

Will- I have no idea what sight configuration you have on your Sakos, but mine have front sights that are very different from the brownings in the FN and the Sako action. I will add that all of them are or were "pre's"- Mike

Hey Mike,
From the angle of the photo, the sight appeared to have the flat front like the Sako. Seller sent me a better photo of the one on the Browning which has the tapered front similar to the old Williams Streamlined Ramp. So.... my bad

Will- Since you brought this up, I can't answer the question about origins. I do see some real characteristics of some Lyman and some Williams in many Sako products. About two years ago I "won" an auction for some safari sights and wanted to use them on a L579 that I had. They didn't come close to working. I could teach a class in "How to accumulate crap in desperation" trying to find Sako parts and solutions.
