• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Hey there a buddy of mine broke the bolt stop screws off, i got em out
but need some replacements. Any one have any ideas where i might be
able to get some? Thanks!
Henry.

Awe come on guys! I even tried calling a guy out of Kansas that was supposed to have a bunch of Sako parts and nothing from him yet either. Figured someone could surely help me out here...please!!!???

hunter, just a thought, think I remember some one saying the thread for those screws were metric 3.5x.6 .If they are you may be able to fashion them from screws for the old style Sako scope ring.Do you know the the thread pitch?I have some of the screws that were take offs and I would be happy to send you a couple if you send me a PM with your address.BTW you need to edit your profile with your location.Click on edit profile at the top of the forum and place your general location in the signature block and save it and your done.Just a general location will do.Placing your location in the signature block sounds like the wrong place but that is where it has to go.It is a requirement of the forum. Jim Lutes of Kansas passed away a few months ago. His son, who has posted here on the SCC forum, at last word was working to sort out some of his father's things and offer them at such time as he is able. Whether the younger Mr. Lutes would have any of the screws you're seeking is uncertain.

I would suggest pulling a screw from another Sako to find its dimensions, then looking at fastener supply houses. I found some rather odd-sized machine screws (not for a Sako but for another gun-related project) that I was able to successfully adapt at my local Home Depot. I had to reduce and reshape the head, but with a little care you can't tell it from a factory original.

I thought "salvagedpleasure" was his grandson.I think Jim's kids would be in their 50's or better by now. I guess you never know what goes on in the cornfields:angel2:

Back on topic. If you are creative enough, you can often come up with improvised factory-like stuff that is close enough to the original. Home Depot is your friend.

Hunter8734,

Get in touch with gizz442. He was looking for a L57 firing pin and I sent him mine and he recreated it. If you have at least one screw I suspect he can make you duplicates.

Gosh! Thanks for all the tips guys! I only have a little bit of the screws since they where sheared off...Also i updated my profile! Haha thanks for the encouragement. My sako, a m591 is not the same as the sako AV that is missing the screws. The bolt stops are different. Each new lead has seemed to turn into a dead end. So far this site has been my best bet. I tried True Value here in town and they didnt carry any, tried a machine/gunshop/smith here in town and he directed me to the Lutes family. Tried looking on brownells, midway and berreta, with no success... i am realy wanting to beat up my future brother in law for doing this to our friends rifle. He did an unimaginable thing to this custom beauty (that was a gift to our friend from a family friend of his for his graduation). Anyways, nobody wanted to try to have it fixed so after the 3 years that i have knowen him i figured i would give it a whirl in between my own projects. Thanks again for all your help! Still looking for sugestions ect. if any one is willing to spare some parts my address is 4354 Welsh Lane, Laramie, Wy 82070.
Henry.
