• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Hello, Can anyone give me the sequence in the production on the different SAKO ctions? I am particularly interested in which one of these two came first, the AV or the L691? Of these two, which would you recommend to me and why? Thank you for your help guys.

Sal,

As I stated in my last e mail to you regarding another topic, the AV was produced prior to the 91 series, 691,591, 491. The "A" series actions are considered better for the following reasons:

Integral recoil lug, the 91 series recoil lug was bolt on.
Better trigger Sako #4. 91 series used Tikka units.
Fully machined sidewalls. The 91 seies was squared off to save on machinig costs.

Is the A series more accurate? No reason to think so, but they are a little lighter and are a better effort by Sako.

Dave, thank you very much for your help. Sorry about the newbie questions. What would be a reasonable price for an L691 Finnbear Deluxe? One beauty came up for grabs that really has caught my attention.

Sal,

It really depends on the condition and caliber. Magnums command a $50-$100 premium. What caliber is it?

An excellant deluxe in excellant to mint would likely sell between $800-$1200. On the higher end if the wood were ourstanding or if a .375 H&H.; If you really like it, strongly consider it as they will get harder to find as time goes on.

Dave,
Three rifles were up for grabs, one was sold right off the bat, and i regret not going after it. All three were Finnbear Deluxes an L61R in 300. Win Mag., an AV in .300 Win Mag., and an L691 in .270 Win. The L61R has been sold already, and if im not mistaken went for $1500 or around that area. The AV is going for $1350, and the L691 for $1200. All are owned by the same person, and are new and unfired. The reason I am leaning towards the L691 is because of the "character" in its stock. It is a beautiful dark walnut with very high grain and some fiddleback. The AV has a lighter stock, but not alot of grain and no fiddleback. Any opinions you may have, I would greatly appreciate. Thanks for your help Dave.

Sal,

If you like a particular rifle, consider that it is best to stick with that series. So, if you like the 691, consider another 691 in the future. The reasoning is that the triggers and particulary the stocks are interchangeable. Should you get a nice McMillan stock made up, it will likely fit both rifles unless large differences in the barrel countour.
