• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Anyone have the Sako 85 in 204 Ruger? I'm having magazine feed problems - will not pickup and slide straight.

Update
Rifle went back to retailer today, they said the bolt face hasn't been machined properly so back to Sako under warranty. Picked up a Sako 85 stainless laminated varmint in .243 that I've been waiting 5 months for. Absolutely beautiful. Short range use was stunning after break-in. Used some David Tubbs break-in bullets. This rifle (twist rate) doesn't like 107 grain VLD (I think they were Bergers) every shot key holed. After cleaning I used 80 grain Federal - 5 shots in 1/2 inch.

They key holed because the 1=10" twist is too fast for that heavy bullet. You might do better with 95 grain or less projectiles.

Update 2

204 Ruger has come back from Baretta, their gunsmith confirmed the problem with the bolt face and re-finished the face. Took it to the range today and it fed perfectly. Six shots in 1 cm hole at 50 metres. (indoor range) with Sierra Blitzking 39gr.

Aus -

Glad to hear your rifles are upholding the Sako accuracy tradition. On your 243, it would be worth your while to measure your twist rate. I think in some cases actual twist is different than advertised. Sakonut, I'm sure meant to say a 1:10 would be too slow to stabilize a heavier weight VLD. Around 3000 fps, it usually takes 1:8.5 or better to stabilize the big VLDs.

Berger does make both 105 and 108 gr BT bullets that use a tangent (non VLD) ogive. Either will stabilize easier with a marginal twist - especially when driven pretty hard. Might be worth a try, depending on what your twist measures out.

My all time favorites out to 600y are Bibb 95gr FB. Not sure if they're available in your area or not. It would be worth some misery and expense to lay some in if at all possible. Just like little laser beams...

Good luck, Dick
