I have a great friend who has this Sako Riofle. It is new in the box - never fired. It is a short action in caliber 7.62/39. The ak47 round. He wants to sell it to me & I would love to own it. We both have no idea what the value is. Can you guys help us out. I will keep you posted as I know this is a rare Sako. Thanks Pete LaBella

This year at auction I bought a 7.62x39 Mannlicher for $2,400. I would have paid more because it was a Mannlicher or if it had been a 4EFCEE66-F504-4978-B058-57FE1A147BAA.jpeg D2A02EE4-DC08-4C88-84E7-9EA9BCC803A2.jpeg 4EFCEE66-F504-4978-B058-57FE1A147BAA.jpeg D2A02EE4-DC08-4C88-84E7-9EA9BCC803A2.jpeg 4EFCEE66-F504-4978-B058-57FE1A147BAA.jpeg D2A02EE4-DC08-4C88-84E7-9EA9BCC803A2.jpeg 4EFCEE66-F504-4978-B058-57FE1A147BAA.jpeg D2A02EE4-DC08-4C88-84E7-9EA9BCC803A2.jpeg Deluxe. Other models might bring less. My op is that $2,500-$3,500 would be a fair price if in fact it is new although then you get into the use it or preserve it discussion.

Very unusual barrel stamping on that one Spaher.

Deersako, I had some hesitancy early on due to location & style of caliber numberings but have had couple of knowledgeable Sako members give their op as legit. Prob due to low nos. in this metric caliber. I’ve had others on top of barrel & then on L side.

There is a huge premium on Mannlicher-style Sakos in unusual calibers. If the rifle in question is a standard sporter rather than a Mannlicher-style carbine, it's worth a lot less than the auction price quoted. It still is worth a premium over a common caliber. I don't want to put a number on it, but be aware of the difference between a Mannlicher and a straight sporter. A Deluxe would definitely be worth more, probably in the range of a Mannlicher.

Deersako, I went back & looked at barrel stamping on the 7.62x39, close exam has caliber & 281D594C-E22E-483E-AE30-EA12644DFA9D.jpeg 8DE42947-C8DB-4CCB-8DED-E6E90A12E584.jpeg 1B52B84C-B13B-4D14-A312-0217CA407CCD.jpeg CEFBBD03-3047-4109-9EC4-BC9BEA7A832C.jpeg crowned lion emblem stamped on the barrel followed by “84” & the same stamp after AII on the action. Then compared to a 7x64 Mannlicher that has the same crowned lion stamp but on the action after AIII followed by RV stamping, with the caliber on the top of the barrel.

It is just non typical Spaher, who knows why.
Like a lot of the rifles that came out of that last big auction over there.

    Non precise stamping etc.
